I partially disagree, more Gypsies are identifying as Gypsies instead of Hungarians. This is based on self declaration.
With that said, the number of Gypsies most likely has increased, but more Gypseis are identifying as gypsies too.


I would say, there is about 8 million Hungarians in Hungary, if you take out Gypsies identifying as Hungarians.

Please szegedist can you tell us why its such horrifying decrease on ethnic hungarian population, i see a total of 1.1m decrease just in 10 year period.....Can you tell what is the main cause of all this.

It is a combination of low birth rates, emigration and more minorities are identifying as their actual ethnicity.

I bet its because more gypsies identified with their homeland, ROMAnia.

I wish so too. The current government introduced some family friendly policies, but I don't think it will be enough. I am dreading the next census in about a decades time.

Yes but Italy is a big country population wise, with an even bigger diaspora, while there are about 15 million of us in the whole world, at best.

I thought that danube germans were magyarized...btw, i think that your decrease is mostly for emigration and abstention to the answer more than for effective deaths...

take those numbers with a very big grain of salt. just you look how many people who didnt answer questions in the census.
when someone ignores the ethnicity question it doesnt automatically mean he doesnt consider himself hungarian (german, gypsy etc).

on the other hand, when someone ignores the religion (confession) question, it usually does mean that hes not a believer anymore. see the massive, roughly 1/3 drop in major religious groups.

and in the end theres always a group of people who ignore censuses completely. this group is getting bigger. although i disagree with their practice, they surely have their reasons to ignore census.

anyway: i would like to see religious (confessional) distribution map of hungary. i want to see where exactly are byzantine catholics in hungary concentrated (i know theres lot of them in exarchate of miskolc + theres eparchy of hajdudorog, but i want more precise data). map should be from before 2011 census because of the 268 935 -> 179 176 drop. am interested in them because theyre mostly descendants of assimilated slavs, largely rusnak people.

anyway the 1/3 drop among byzantine catholics is horrible. i wonder what were eparch Kocsis and exarch Orosz doing?!

i see some concentration at romanian borders, so there must be a good deal of romanians too. actually it has some logic in it.
what i was looking for are those concentrations farther from romanian borders. especially the diaspora north of miskolc. thats the mostly assimilated rusnak population.

Komlóska has an 18% Rusyn population
Múcsony also has a Rusyn population, and a Rusyn museum too.
Most Rusyns in Hungary were assimilated.

I knew about komlóska and múcsony, and also about assimilated rusnaks in felsozsolca and few other villages in those hills around, but the rest was quite a mystery to me.

On topic:

This is caused by the few job, the immigration of the Hungarians with earning capacity to the West and many state rescoursce has flowed to the Gypsies as social support. The most of twenties and thirtiens Hungarian people have lowcost-job and they are living with their parents. Side by side the level of consuming is higher and higher. They are spendig their last money to "cool stuff", not to children. In the old time many generation of a family lived a same place and the two parents make 8-10 children. Now 1 or 0. Hence the influences of the consuming society and the mass media are so important too.

The only fortune is the social support use to flow to the Gypsies, not as general social support, hence it is not a target-country of the Africans or others. Side by side the capital Budapest has becomen full of the Negros and Arabs and Turks in the last 2-3 years. While many Hungarian haven't got a job, they have it, as the employers perefer them.
