A Vietnamese sport delegation led by the head of the country's Olympic Committee arrived in Hungary on Wednesday to find out why Hungarians are so successful in sports.

The Vietnamese delegation met István Simicskó, the Secretary of State responsible for sports to discuss the possibility of organizing joint training camps among Hungarian and Vietnamese athletes; the two sides also discussed the possibility of organizing tournaments and joint training sessions for sports professionals.

"More and more foreigners noticing Hungary's outstanding achievements in the field of sports -- Hungarian athletes won 167 gold medals in Olympic games. We are willing to share at least part of the secret" said Simicskó.

The Hungarian politician said the Vietnamese delegation was interested in studying methods of teaching physical education in Hungary; the two sides discussed the possibility of allowing Vietnamese students into specialized training programs at Semmelweis University Faculty of Physical Education and Sports.

The Secretary of State pointed out that Minister of Human Resources Zoltán Balog recently visited Vietnam and in September the president of Vietnam arrives in Hungary at the invitation of Hungarian President Áder János, which provides further possibilities to discuss sports related issues .

The Vuong Bich Thang led Vietnamese delegation remains in Hungary until Sunday. During their stay members of the delegation visit the Tata Training Camp, the Semmelweis University, they meet the heads of the Hungarian Canoe Federation and the Hungarian Olympic Committee.

On Thursday, the head of the Hungarian Olympic Committee Zsolt Borkai and the head of the Vietnamese delegation Vuong Bich Thang sign a cooperation agreement between the two organizations.

Seven years after Hungary fell formally under Soviet control, any meeting between representatives of the two nations would naturally be lent extra significance. More in water polo, perhaps, than anything else: Hungary was the game's great superpower, having won three of the previous four Olympic gold medals and a silver in London in 1948. At the 1952 Games, the Russians watched Hungary win yet again after themselves finishing a humiliating seventh. And so, as they worked on improving their chances for 1956, the Soviets landed on an unusual solution: given that they essentially owned Hungary, they would simply send their own team to benefit from Hungary's unique, and uniquely successful, training regime.

"At that point in time they were our idols, they were significantly better than us," Viktor Ageyev, a member of the Soviet team, told the makers of the 2006 film Freedom's Fury, a documentary, produced by Quentin Tarantino and Lucy Liu, that told the story of the match. "I thought, 'My God, how are we going to play against this team?'" Hungary's Istvan Hevesi recalled: "They wrote down everything we did. The next day they did the same thing we did. They copied us."

1952 Summer Olympics

Hungary, a country of 9 million inhabitants, won 42 medals at these games, coming in third place behind the much more populous United States and Soviet Union.

In the 1936 Summer Olympics, Hungary also came in Third Place, behind Nazi Germany, and United States.

This proves that it is not just about genetics, because countries which are genetically close to Hungarians do not produce these kind of results.

I was just joking :D

Actually Finland has been the most successful, if we take into account the population size. It must be some Finno-Ugric-supergenes.
