27. So you are supposted to know the difference between a French and a Belgian accent in English, spoken by an African :picard2:

it's called 'guess the accent' for a reason.

Belgian French sounds harsher (and is spoken more slowly) than French French, also a French speaker of Belgium has less of a pronounced stereotypical French accent.

23, the Glaswegian doesn't even sound proper Glaswegian, it's not nasally or ends like a question..They say in Edinburgh you talk through the mouth & in Glasgow through the nose.

The only regional I got was Toronto Canada. It's funny that I can recognise Canadian accents.

Also Migla cheated.

The Lithuanian one had a VERY atypical accent!! I know what Lithuanians sound like and she definitely didn't sound like one.

The Spanish Valencian guy sounded very French. I guessed the Canadian as Irish, the Scot & one of the English guys as Welsh (no idea what Welsh accent sounds like TBH), South African as Irish and German as Norwegian :redface_002:
About the Belgian & Austrian I had no clue, so those were wild guesses, both wrong. Austrian kind of sounded like a very watered down French.

In the end I got 23pts.

she sounded Irish :D (Lithuanians have a variaty of accents, I think it depends on what other foreign language they learn. The ones who learn german, sound german, the ones who learn Russian sound Russian, IMHO)

good job :thumb001:Well, thanks :)

I think most Lithuanians who learn English as their first foreign language (which is the vast majority of youths or some provincial people) have a similar accent - kind of like this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDxDAAk3kbE) (the interviewer, not Marcus Brown).

But you're probably right about those who don't. It probably depends on whom they learn English from too, e.g.: the actual ethnic Brits or Serbian roommates like our Minde here.

Yeah, for him English probably wasn't the first foreign language lol

She'd be a better example of a Lithuanian English accent unspoiled by too much learning (the blondie):

I stopped cause quite honestly, I don't believe that all of the people they used actually represent the local accent they claim to rep as Tr00 as they could do to certain factors.

I think that too.

Same thing with the Spanish equivalent they offer. Some were not that representative, so even natives will probably score low.

I got the one guy from Valencia, Spain believe it or not but IMO the Belgian and Chicago, Illinois examples were total BS.

That was Chi-town light as far as I'm concerned. Here's Tr00:cool: Chi-town:

Some of these people were speaking "short" to kinda mask where they're from just to make it harder and the Chi-town lady was kinda doing that.:nono:

Me too and relatively recently (2008) but that's a town that gets its far share of newer arrivals generation after generation. The stereotypical Chi-town accent is all about "Da bears" and is very distinct.

That's another thing about the test, is that we have in our minds very stereotypical dialects/accents in our heads to represent certain regions but these can change over time.

not always:

A stereotype is a thought that may be adopted about specific types of individuals or certain ways of doing things, but that belief may or may not accurately reflect reality.

So the degree of tr00thulness can be high or low ultimately depending on the circumstance or situation it arises out of.

mmmmmm...not necessarily. depends more on who's promoting the view and if its being unfairly politicized in some way shape or form.

in relation to group behavior stereotypes are often based on observable traits/characteristics of a group that repeat themselves over and over but can potentially be used to misrepresent the group particularly if the promoter of the stereotype has an agenda or is biased.

some stereotypes are tr00-er then others. but not all are useless per se.
