Hi everybody,
Just found the site and thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm a metalhead from the US and I'm definately interested in European Preservation and culture so hopefully I'll fit in.

Hi, Jagerzen, and welcome!

I am also a metal head, but that doesn’t mean we like the same music in the least. The metal genre is so infinitely wide-ranging it’s mindboggling. :P I listen mostly to black and death metal.

Hails from Denmark. Oh, check out my favorite Danish viking metal band Svartsot. Myspace link. (http://www.myspace.com/svartsot)

Hey Lars.
I agree with you about the metalhead distinctions.
There are more genres of metal than I can wrap my head around.
I'm mostly into black/death/folk metal.

I have heard of Svartsot before, I particularly like the song Gravøllet.
My wife ordered me a Týr t-shirt a while back and with it came a catalog and cd that had a couple songs from Svartsot on it. Very folkish.

Glad to see another headbanger around; haha.

Hear! Hear!
Woman, come with beer,
Woman, come with meat,
Gravøllet we drink to our companions, who died!

Hehe. I don't know the English word for gravøl. Is it 'grave beer' or 'funeral drink'? :|

Hello and welcome. I to are a metalhead:) And as Jagermaister(:p) I like folk metal. Listen to Windir mate.

Is that what the lyrics mean? Ha! I didn't know.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Gravøllet doesn't have a better Danish to English translation than 'tomb-beer' or 'grave-beer'

As for Windir, another great band to knock back a few brews to.

Awesome, got to respect the metalhead pride in this thread.

Welcome on board on my humble behalf, Jagerzen. :thumbs up

Who are your favourite bands, if I may ask?

I'm mainly into 90's Florida death metal (Morbid Angel, Deicide, Obituary, Immolation) and latter-day European black- and folk metal, with some NSBM thrown in.

(in addition to a lot of other non-metal stuff, as well)

Jägerstaffel

Ensiferum, Enslaved, Týr, and Agalloch for folk metal.
Darkthrone, Mayhem, and Satyricon for BM.
Meshuggah for the technical metal.
Can't go wrong with Bloodbath for death metal.
Norther, Kalmah, Children of Bodom for the progressive Finnish style metal.

I go through spells where I'm more into BM one day and folk the next but I'll listen to any genre of metal as long as I can enjoy the vocals, the theme and the musical talent.

I also have to admit I do listen to other types of music as well; I love Amorphis and can listen to Anathema and Type O Negative as well - certain goth rock bands and little bits and pieces of other genres.

Good to see some proud metalheads.

Maybe I should have a go too? :P

Black: Burzum, Graveland, Veles, Yamatu
Death: Demilich, Nile, Lykathea Aflame, Infester, Incantation
Doom: Nortt, diSEMBOWELMENT, Electric Wizard
Viking/folk: Svartsot, Storm, Thyrfing

Add several hundred more bands!

Here it goes.

BM: Dimmu Borgir + some bands I can't remember the name of,doesn't usally listen to BM anyways.
Folk/Viking: Ensiferum, Windir, Dragonland etc.
"Wierd metal"(:p): King Diamond

Probarly some more which I can't remember.

I don't listen to Gorgoroth anymore, they kinda lost their hard, black, satanic image.

Jägerstaffel

I never did like Gorgoroth. Sounded like garbage to me.
BM has to sound like music not just noise, haha!
No offense to any Gorgoroth fans of course
