Meet the "Peace Keeper". Something quite similar to what we drive around in for Armoured money-transfer, then again, also very similar to what they drive around in while troops are on patrol in Iraq, now preparing to patrol the streets of America possibly to take on angry mobs of citizens who take to the streets..?

Here’s some advice from police: When you see this thing rolling down the street, go inside and lock your doors.

Because when you see the 9,000-pound Peace Keeper armored vehicle coming into your neighborhood, something’s about to go down.

Adding to its arsenal of equipment for just-in-case situations, Newport Beach police can brag that they now have not one, but two armored vehicles to deal with the worst situations.

Bah, that's Mickey Mouse. In South Africa you see these on the streets:

Haha, yes Loki. In South Africa, this sort of thing isn't out of the ordinary. But then again, South Africa isn't exactly held in the same regard as the United States when it comes to the freedoms and protection it's citizen's enjoy against someone who can declare otherwise. But that's slowly changing, of course..

"Change has come to America!"

I didn't have time to affix any loudspeakers chanting slogans to it, and by that I mean I'm lazy as evidenced by the poor quality.

Also worth pointing out that Newport Beach is a nice area, very white demographically, lots of families, quite wealthy, and nearly 3:1 Republican to Democrat ratio.

Trying to read the Obama symbol and the "Progress" written on the side of the vehicle through the blast residue certainly made me laugh! Thanks for that! I found it pretty comical as well to read that it was said the vehicle “is capable of withstanding rifle fire. Theoretically, it can also withstand fragmentation grenades,”

I wonder if we can do a head count on how many citizens in America have grenades.. :rolleyes2:

If any at all, i'm certain they would really help out, given the direction this is headed.

You're quite welcome. :D

I asked a friend who lives in Newport Beach about this and said he hadn't heard of it but, every year, during the surfing championships and the X Games people set cars on fire and start little riots, throw fireworks at police officers etc so there is some legitimate justification for a pacification vehicle.

This rowdy phenomenon is brought on mostly by tourists who come down to drink and party during these type of events.

Police have specialists in the department, or Sheriffs county called Riot squads. These are trained specialists that the police normally respond with when things like this happen. They have been successful for many years in containing and even arresting even whole schools of people by the tactics they employ, that people who like to start people's cars on fire, tip them over, and throw some fireworks out into the street normally would contest with. I for one have never heard of any case in Newport Beach on mainstream news that attendees to the X Games there are causing such destruction and public mischief that they would have to deploy combat vehicles capable of taking rifle calibre military rounds of ammunition, grenades fragmentation and rocket deployed against a rowdy bunch of teenages who've been drinking too much. Just my take.
