Ukraine is interested in developing trade and economic relations with Austria.

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Ihor Prasolov announced this during a meeting with Austria's Ambassador to Ukraine Wolf Dietrich Heim.
In his words, Austria is an important trade and investment partner of Ukraine.

In 2012, Austria was Ukraine's 11th largest partner in Europe in terms of the volume of bilateral trade in goods and services and 5th in terms of investment cooperation.

The trade turnover between Ukraine and Austria (in terms of goods and services) amounted to USD 1.64 billion in 2012.

According to the minister, one of the main instruments of bilateral trade and economic relations between the two countries is the Ukrainian-Austrian joint commission on trade and economic relations.

"The last meeting took place in April last year, and it gave an impetus to the deepening and expansion of our trade and economic relations," said Prasolov.

Heim said that Austria is among the five largest foreign investors in Ukraine and has a long tradition of operations in the country, especially in the banking and financial sectors.

Prasolov assured the Austrian ambassador of Ukraine's interest in further development of trade and economic relations with Austria and creation of a favorable business environment for foreign investors.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara will pay a working visit to Austria on April 26.
