Because if you follow the ideology of islam you are taught what to think about specific issues, how to act what is right and what is wrong. You can't be open minded if you follow what a god thinks. You can't accept new ideas since its already decided for you by your god what is right and what is acceptable. So by that definition you can't be open minded.
