I think it was made of actual stones though.

Stone soup is based on a tale about a poor friar on a pilgrimage who knocked on a door to ask for food. But since he was too proud to ask for food, he told the people he was gonna make a "stone soup" and asked them for a pan. The people were curious so they gave him a pan to make his soup. So the friar had a stone cooking, but then he told them the soup needed some seasoning and more ingredients. In the end they all ate the soup and the friar took the stone out.

It's mostly based on meat, and has beans, carrots, etc. It's actually a very heavy soup.

The Catalan escudella (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escudella)is the first referenced soup in Europe. Apparently it was eaten every day by 14th-century Catalans.

Caldo verde, literally "green broth", is a typical soup from northern Portugal, eventhough it's common and eaten all over the country.
It's made with potatoes, couve galega (also called "penca galega" or "coibe galega") - collard greens - and at least one slice of chouriço.

If someone gives you caldo verde without chouriço you're free to insult their mothers.

I think it's the same soup, meatball and rice with egg lemon sauce. (avgolemono)

Greek recipe: :p

Meatballs
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 medium onion, grated
1 tsp round allspice
pinch of grated nutmeg
1 egg
1/3 cup Arborio rice
+ 1/2 (to 2/3 cup) Arborio rice for the soup
2 tsp. vegetable seasoning
1 tsp. pepper
1 Tbsp. chopped fresh dill
2 quarts (6 cups) of good chicken stock

Avgolemono
2 eggs
juice of 1 lemon
1 Tbsp. of flour

Mix your ground beef, onion, egg, 1/3 cup of rice, spices, salt & pepper in a large bowl. Form the entire mixture into meatballs.
Bring your stock to boil in a large pot. Drop your meatballs and the 1/2 cup rice into the stock and bring back to a boil. Once you have a boil, reduce to a simmer (medium) with a just closed lid and cook for about 20 minutes. Take off the heat.
In a small bowl, add your flour and some water and beat until the flour has dissolved to make a slurry.
Add the flour slurry to a large bowl with the eggs and lemon juice and whisk or use an immersion hand-blender until just frothy.
Take a ladle of stock from your pot and slowly add it to your egg/lemon mixture while whisking. Slowly add another 2 to 3 ladles of stock into the egg/lemon mixture. You’ve now tempered your your hot liquid and you’ve successfully made an Avgolemono.
Slowly add your egg/lemon mixture back into your pot of soup and simultaneously keep on stirring as you’re pouring.
Adjust seasoning with salt and reserve for five minutes. Serve with a garnish of parsley or dill, cracked black pepper and some good bread.

As we see, Greeks have it too ;)

but i agree, the meatballs should be smaller to swallow in single piece without cutting it in half. There is no point putting three giant balls in a single dish.

Yes, we took it from you, thats why we use pork for the meatballs.

However, i had no intention to argue with you. You think that turks gave the civilization birth and we all should be thankful. Sorry, not here. Leave the thread clean. Post some chorbas instead.

Tatarator crew cheking in. Any Turkish brahs to join?

Greeks too pls.

How do you cope with Chesan smell?

My secret is to dine with large amounts of alcohol. This oppresses the Chesan and substitute it with the fragrance of Rakia for Men. Works for me, because, you know, bulgar-bulgar http://stopbg.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_horce.gif

OK ....I'll start with the native food of my people. ..Appalachian pinto beans with a little fat back or bacon and onion, served with cornbread...simple but filling, nutritional and delicious

I also love traditional American grilled cheese with tomato/tomato basil soup

As an adult I developed a strong preference for broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl

58892

Healthy light options lean towards lentils with spinach and a dab of olive oil

58893

I actually learned also to make a mean homemade borscht as an adult

58894

My grandfather used to make homemade chili with beans and beef, but it's not something I ever developed a strong preference for, I rarely eat chili.

Split peas are yummy though especially when the peas are still lumpy, not blended

EDIT: I don't know why these pics are posting like this, I tried a different picture and it didn't change anything. The last random attachment is not supposed to be there, that's not my hand, I found the best representation I could of the type of soup
