The eyes of the world will be on the Netherlands on Tuesday when Willem-Alexander becomes king in a secular ceremony that is an investiture rather than a coronation. How does such a modern monarchy compare with the more traditional system in the UK?

The Crown Prince, 46, becomes the first king of the Netherlands since 1890, following the abdication of his mother, Queen Beatrix, after 33 years on the throne

Ooh stop reminding us about Prins Pils and his luxury homes in Mozambique and Argentina (paid for by the taxpayer while the Royal Family themselves dodge taxes) while we are suffering from a massive recession and his (albeit gorgeous) wife whose father is a mass-murderer. This is not the kind of family that we should have on the throne here. Particularly since the monarchy is illegitimate (http://www.theapricity.com/forum/showthread.php?76485-Nederland-is-een-republiek) and there can be doubts about the personal legitimacy of everyone since King William III (the guy had syphilis and very ill and still produced one surviving heir: Queen Wilhelmina.. who also happened to be tone deaf.. like the King's Secretary de Ranitz, who also happened to be tone deaf).
