I think he looks pretty much like the depiction of ancient Egyptians.
I think he looks pretty much like the depiction of ancient Egyptians.
If you mean he can pass as an Egyptian. I'd say 100% yes. If i saw him in Egypt, i'd guess he is an Upper Egyptian from (Assyut, Sohaj or Luxor).
But if you mean that Horners made AE civilization, i have to disagree with you here. and as far as i know, Somali Bannadir form small percentage of Somali population.

I agree with that. He looks pretty much (South) Mediterranid/Aethiopid influence - however more Mediterranid than Aethiopid for sure. Exactly how I would imagine ancient Egyptians.
Like this Egyptian bodybuilder(Ali el Sharkawy from Gharbiya):

LMAO? Where did I claim this? That guy looks very atypical for the Horn of Africa.

He can also pass in some parts of Libya and Morocco. It is not that rare to see Egyptians pass as Horners or the opposite, but we tend to be more robust and have a little bit lighter tone of skin (Dark brown, Reddish brown, Olive, Medium white or in some cases Pale skin).
for example, famous Egyptian footballer Abou Treka, can pass as Horner if he had darker skin.

I am useless when it comes to classifying Non-Caucasoids.

Persians in Somalia?
Persians in Somalia?
This guy comes from a region called Benadir which drifted from the Persian word Bandar=Port or City.
Benadir region was very important trade center in middle ages and the locals there had a relations with Arab and Persian traders, so it is quite possible that they mixed with them.

Persians in Somalia?
Infact, Persian Sunnis from Shiraz founded Mogadishu (Magad-e-Shah, 'the seat of the Shah' in Farsi) in the 8th-9th centuries

I know this sounds far fetched but could his appearance be due to an italian admixture during colonial times?

No...those people do exist, and they are pejoratively called 'Qarac-yaal' (Bastards lol) in Somali. They usually identify with their paternal Italian identity, such as Italian soccer player Fabio Liverani:

and these other Italo-Somalis:

If it was paternally Italian blood during colonial times...Im afraid the descendants are now all in Italy, with Italian names. Keep in mind, although Italians readily mixed with the locals unlike the British, Somalis, due to our clan structure still remained insular and mostly shunned any Italian mixed individual, especially if they were baptized or had christian names.
I'm not sure how I would classify him, but I would guess him as being Egyptian.

They suffered alot the last few decades because they dont really have a strong militia. Because they dont have strong tribal structure like other Somalis, they were very pro-regime during Siad Barre's rule (the last real gov't of Somalia)..The same situation is true for the other non-ethnic Somali groups. It's tragic, most left for the Middle East or the West. I like the halwa and other sweets that they prepare.
The civil war really changed the ethnic picture of Somalia...it made it less diverse and more Somali, as all the weak minorities either left or had their numbers dwindle.

That's very unfortunate. I heard a good reviews about your last president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, I hope he makes things better in Somali in the near future.
