A skyscraper is a tall, continuously habitable building of many storeys, usually designed for office and commercial use. There is no official definition or height above which a building may be classified as a skyscraper.

I am a Civil Engineer, and for me a Skyscraper is any building above 180m-200m. More than anything, it is a symbol of power and status of the society that build it.

For me every high rise building that has a height much higher than the width and length, and that is much higher than the rest of the buildings of the city where is localized, can be considered a skyscraper. Anyway the definition of skyscraper changes by country to country, here this hotel with about 20 floors is considered a skyscraper:

in cities like New York would be considered as a midget.

^ That's partly why I am asking. I'm particularly interested in the view of Europeans, as buildings taller than the heights mentioned by Uhtred are rather few in Europe.

More than anything, it is a symbol of wealth of the company/companies that build it.

Fixed :)
