My paternal grandmother was called Lily Fischer and I was wondering if she was jewish?

Its normal german name

german surnames often have the work or occupation of their ancestors, while jews have material surnames like stein=stone, rothschild=red shield while fischer=fisherman, Müller=miller

It's either Jewish or German.

In your other thread your grandmother's Iraqi Jewish. You told me Russian Jewish. You've mentioned Iberian too.

Seems some contradictions?

Russian jewish on my grandmothers side. Iberian since they were from there and they went to the ottoman empire

google "Rabbi Fischer" or "Rabbi Muller."

There's plenty of Jews called Fischer and Muller.

Not particularly. She could be German or Jewish I'd say.
