Hungarians continue to be gloomiest about their national economy compared with their Visegrad Four peers, pollster Tarki said on Monday.
After the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia, Hungary languished at rock bottom when it came to assessments of the economy since 2004.
Only two percent of respondents said they were satisfied with the economic situation in the country, while 4 percent of Slovaks and 5 percent Czechs said their economy was doing well. This ratio was as high as 18 percent in Poland.
Concerning their own finances, 8 percent of Hungarians said they were happy, compared with 20 percent in Slovakia, 34 percent in the Czech Republic, and 41 percent in Poland.
Asked about expectations for the future, however, Hungarians were more positive. Fully 14 percent of Hungarians and as many Poles were hopeful the economy would brighten in the next 12 months. Ten percent of Slovaks and a mere 6 percent of Czech respondents voiced similar optimism.
Tarki conducted its survey as part of the Central European Opinion Research Group with a representative sample of 1,000 adults in January.
