View Full Version : Big increase in number of asylum-seekers in Hungary

The number of asylum-seekers in Hungary during the first quarter of 2013 surpassed the total number registered last year, national daily Magyar Nemzet said on Monday.

In the first three months of the year altogether 2,322 foreign nationals arriving in Hungary applied for asylum, as against 2,157 throughout the year 2012, the paper said, citing Immigration and Citizenship Office figures.

Of this year’s applicants, 74 were granted some kind of protection.

The largest group represented among asylum-seekers are those from Kosovo (400), with many others coming from Afghanistan (379) and Algeria (374).
