Which Europeans are smallest in height and which ones are tallest.

According to the Human height list in Wikipedia:
People from the Dinaric Alps aswell as Scandinavians and Dutch are tallest on average.
Portuges People seem to be among the smallest in Europe according to that list, with Man averaging 1,73 m and woman 1,63 m. Now i am not sure how accrucate those lists really are.
Does anyone know more about this subject?

ok, my family is small, no one in my Family is higher than 6 feet, however People in my particular area are small generally, but drive to Salzburg most People are much taller... or Viennese and Lower Austrians, those are taller than People here.

No the greeks are taller than spanish for sure, and germans have it more like 180 cm, and shorter then swedish. The others are ok I think.

And of course that the average of serbia with kosovo included is not 172 cm , but at least 182 cm.

NO1 The Netherlands

Standing head and shoulders above the rest are the Dutch. An average height of 6’0” makes them the tallest nation in the world. This is supported by the fact that the Dutch government was recently obliged to change building regulations to increase the height of doorways, as the population has grown so tall in recent generations. The data is flawed. They quote the height for young men only for Greeks, but for men of all ages for Germans and Australians and probably many other nations that didn't make their list. 5'10" for young men is not tall. It's quite average.

You can't really equate a percent to each. Basically, genetics sets upper and lower bounds that your height will fall into. With ideal nutrition, health, etc. you will reach the upper bound. With poor nutrition and health you will be around the lower bound.

So genetics might determine that you'll grow up to be 5'8" to 5'11", barring some sort of disease or trauma that really stunts growth. In developed countries, most people probably end up closer to their upper bound.

It's possible. And it was more than a decade ago. I'd say that Iberians about 20 y. today are definitely 1.78, maybe 1.79. on average. Perhaps the Portuguese are slightly shorter, but not that much. 1.77, as Alex said, seems quite correct to me. There should be reliable statistics on this every ten years. And measured, not self-reported.

The table to me is useless and its a mess since who is in the mood for that much of comparison and useless analyzing. It is obvious that where both younger people and people who are 70 years old got tested that decreased average score a little. In the same sense for some countries people who were 17 or 18 or 21 or 20-30 years old got tested that raised an average score. For some countries where 18 or 19 years old only got tested I am sure they could squeeze more juice when compared to those 23 or 20-30... years old who got tested and so on. If info could be the same for everybody.

Alot of it probably has to due with nutrition and I guess the other half is just genetics

Using myself as example my parents aren't very tall, my dad is probably 5'9 or 5'10 while my mom is probably 5'4-5'5ish

I'm around 6'1-6'2 and my brother is slightly taller than me. My parents were born and raised in Yugoslavia and they didn't have much growing up.

But in general Balkan people are the tallest. Especially Montenegrins and Kosovar Albanians.. I think Bosnians are tall as well.

Toscs are southern albanian tribes, they were very poor and this has affected their height, also they are alpine mostly.

Northern albanians known as ghegs were always the tallest people of europe, there are hundreds of documents about this, read also:

We should also take into consideration what each nation have been gone through. I mean, North and South Koreans are basically the same people, but Southern are taller. The famine and malnutrition of the North ones, have an effect on their growth. Same in Europe, I guess.

She f.ex checked the height, weight etc on all of us. The average male height was 184.3 cm and the average female height was 171.7 cm. It's the same in Greece. There is a huge gap in height between older and younger generations.

Not huge.... the new generation is taller of course, but there is not a big difference in greece between greek males of 40-55 years old and new guys born after 1990.
