The good wheat and rapeseed crops are nearly secured, but the expected dry weather in July-August is a real concern for the maize and sunflower crop – Romanian minister of agriculture Daniel Constantin was quoted. He seemed pretty sure about the weather problems this summer saying that only irrigations will help the farmers’ crops. But he did not mentioned any expected damage ratio for the maize or sunflower cultures. National weather body ANM confirmed moderate dryness in southern and eastern regions of the country.

The sowing was completed on 50-60% of the planned areas he said. Sowing started late this year because of the cold weather. Sowing this spring should cover 2.62 Mln ha of maize, 170.570 Th ha of spring two-row barley and 185.650 Th ha of spring oath.

The wheat crop might hit 6 mmt this year up from 4.7 mmt last year, he said. EC expects 5.8-5.9 mmt, not far from our estimate – he commented.
