Balkan is a Turkish name for the region. Nowadays it s officially being referred to as South-Eastern Europe. Should it instead be known under it's ancient (Thracian) name of Haemus (Haimos in Greek)?

Another thread/poll exists on this very subject. The majority, from my memory, said to keep the name.

Balkan is a Turkish name for the region.

It was used even before Turks came.

Haemus sounds stupid. Almost effeminate.

Why does it matter whether you use the Greek or Turkish name for the region? These days it's just 'South-Eastern Europe'.
