The "currently drinking" thread. I'll start:

http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/NR/rdonlyres/59E6FF38-CE6F-455B-A83E-408010E7381B/0/Vodka60x184.jpg

Yup, Sainsbury's Vodka. I know it's not Finlandia quality, but cheap and sits nicely in my currently tight budget.

It warms the body in this wintry climate.

I still have a little bottle of Unicum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicum) here from my past trip to Hungary. :p I tried to drink it once but just couldn't, it's repulsive. :D The bottle I have looks exactly like the one in the pic below:

Saw this in the market today, I'd never heard of this particular brew before and had no idea how it tasted, but cuoldn't resist the label. It turned out to be a good choice, strong and dark, and ever so slightly sweet and fruity.

Got an infected root canal with no chance of the dentist til the eighth, so taking strong antibiotics and other medication which I`m not allowed to have alcohol with.
Plus got a stinky cold. I am feeling a lot of self pity tonight. :(

Well, I had a `dry` New Year, but hope everyone had great fun and that there aren`t too many hangovers this morning. ;)
(not that I`m expecting many folks online!)
but in case there are....
Oresai`s genuine hangover cure ....

Two raw eggs in a tall glass,
add tomato juice, tabasco sauce, a dash of pepper, and a splash of orange juice.
Knock it back, it`ll line your stomach and the ingredients rehydrate you and give nourishment. :)

Or...a huge plate of fried eggs, toast, good unsmoked back bacon, fried or grilled tomatoes and mushrooms with some black pudding thrown in for good measure.
If you can keep that down, feel better, because your hangover isn`t so bad after all. :D
Happy 2009 everyone! :D

Hey, that was what our kings in ancient times were called. Interesting.

I don't think there's any connection though.

The German brewer David G. Jüngling immigrated to the United States in 1823 from Aldingen in the Kingdom of Württemberg. He anglicized his surname from Jüngling to Yuengling and began the "Eagle Brewery" on Center Street in Pottsville in 1829.

Oh hey though, I do notice there are quite a few of us having sleep troubles! Well, I know why mine happens..been a chronic insomniac since my teens. But what`s with everyone else? Hope you all get some much needed shuteye soon :)

I was having lousy sleeping patterns, even taking into account my sucky retail work hours: close one day, mid the next, open 2 days, off, open, off, 3 mids, close...you get the idea.

I'd sleep about 3 hours, wake up and lay there for for an hour or two and then drowse for a couple, sleep maybe one more...sometimes having only 5 or 6 hours between shifts depending on schedule...days off, I'd sleep in and get 10 or 12 hours, still feeling groggy.

I've been on a regular schedule since the middle of July and still only get 5 - 6 hours steady sleep, but I'm feeling much more refreshed in the morning (up at 4:30 AM Mon - Fri), and rarely sleep-in on my days off.

Irregular work hours were not the entire cause.

Without the pacemaker I had implanted last April, my heart stops when I sleep. he night they found out, I "paused" 13 times between 8 PM and 5 AM, the longest being 28 seconds. (During this episode, the night nurse later told me, they had 5 people and the crash cart in my room...I came out of it without intervention. Brain damage starts at 30 seconds.)

A disturbance in one's heart beat, like breathing apnea, can be a source of lousy sleep.

Since my "mosh" with the Norns, I've become more aware of my health.

It took me blacking up shortly after getting up for the day, in front of my wife, for us to get the help I'd been needing for (the cardiologist thinks) as much as 3 years.

Also, my overuse of alcohol was taking a toll on my ability to achieve restful sleep. From a bottle of whiskey or vodka (20 - 25 drinks) every evening, I've cut back to 3 - 4 drinks being a wild night, 5 if I'm out of control. ;) I drank like this for several years, using the alcohol to numb myself from the physical and mental pain I was undergoing. Luckily, I heal well; my liver and other systems are back to normal for a man my age.

just a few thoughts - Pip

That's really cool. Tap beer always tastes better. I don't know of a bar in town that has a tap import from continental Europe.
Though we do have an Irish pub that has kegs of Guinness. If you've had Guinness in a can or bottle, you'll agree that tap Guinness beats it by a long shot.

Old Rasputin is easier to find than the actual Russian beers because it's made somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. I can usually find it in good liquor stores in most parts of the country.

I went to the dentist and she packed the exposed gum where my wisdom tooth once was, and ripped out the stitches.

I took that as "You may drink alcohol, just don't rinse with it"

Das ist des Jägers Ehrenschild,
Daß er beschützt und hegt sein Wild,
Weidmännisch jagt, wie sich’s gehört,

I'm drinking a milk kefir smoothie. You have kefir grains, and place them in milk (mine is raw :D) and leave on the counter for 24 hours. Then, after fishing them out, I put the resulting fermented milk in the blender, and added 1/2 a banana, 2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted, 1 egg yolk from pastured eggs, and some frozen fruit, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, and raspberries. Blended up, it makes a nutritious, probiotic breakfast, or snack. And it's tasty! :D

I know, so I don't believe very much in it (but at least it won't harm), but the herbs are other thing.
I'm not a person who can imagine something has effect, before feeling and seeing it. So, I guess the placebo just doesn't work for me.

I was sitting outside and enjoying a nice, cold kriek (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kriek) and a Black Devil cigarette while reading Sophie's World.

Yes I prefer to drink warm or hot water, instead of such with room temperature. But it depends on the weather :D

I was told drinking warm water would give you more energy than any cup of coffee, is this true? Maybe it has something to do with the body having to work harder to bring the water down to body temperature. Or even cold water to bring the temperature up.

I'm currently drinking Natural Estonian root beer. It's so good, that it's almost the most popular drink in Estonia now. It came on sale about 2-3 months back, it's the only root beer that is naturally made, that's why the 0,8 alcohol %. Other "fake" root beers have no alcohol in them, because they aren't naturally made.

The taste of this root beer is perfect.(That's why it's so popular:rolleyes:)

I have switched from Jameson's to plain ole water.

But the root beer remark above reminds me of a favorite:

Fuck yeah, we have our own Birch Beer, which is different from (and better than) root beer!
