It's a free micro-blogging service which lets you update from any web-accessible device. 140ch per post and they can be directed "@" other users of the service for conversations.

Public web based text messaging is another way to look at it.

Twitter's a free service, and you can read or post from anything with a browser, or use desk/laptop based software (twhirl, destroytwitter, seesmic, tweetdeck), or from a mobile phone app yes.

Twitter? I've heard the name too, Suut. Just keep your head down a decade or so and it won't matter any more. Stuff like this comes out for the kiddies every now and then. It passes. We go on...

A short-term study of Twitter has found that 40% of the messages sent via it are "pointless babble."

...

The study found that only 8.7% of messages could be said to have "value" as they passed along news of interest.

(source) (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8204842.stm)

Twitter is basically like those pointless txt msgs or phonecalls ('Hi I'm just going shopping! c u l8r!") only on a mass internet scale :)

I can't wrap my head around why someone would want such a thing.

I think regular people use it mostly to keep up with those famous people they are admiring. :rolleyes2: It's basically an update thing.

Like " I'm currently taking a shit " ...Paula Abdul :D

Sadly, my dear SuuT, most people's heads are FAR more flexible than ours. They have less in them in the first place, and the mind-fuck of state education has left them gaping open for whatever the world throws at them next. :(

So the "welcome to twitter" fingercuffing was complimentary? Makes me feel less special.
