10 tourists and their cook were murdered while spending night in camp in Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. The expedition intended to climb Nanga Parbat and included seasoned mountain climbers from Ukraine, Slovakia, Lithuania, China, USA, Nepal and their Pakistani cook.
One Chinese climber escaped.
Two Islamic groups claimed responsibility for the attack: Jundullah which already attacked in the region, and a faction of Taliban.
Jundullah spokesman:
“These foreigners are our enemies and we proudly claim responsibility for killing them, and will continue such attacks in the future”
Taliban spokesman:
“One of our factions, Junood-ul-Hifsa, did it. It is to avenge the killing of our commander Waliur Rehman”
