No, I actually did start this as a lark, but then a bunch of folks got hot at me for not including them, so I tried to be all inclusive. In one of his fair poll-threads, Gooding asked me to talk about typical Scandinavians and what such thing is. He mentioned that Björk hardly can be called a typical Scandinavian, and I absolutely agree.

What Gooding and several other honourable members of this forum doesn't understand, is that the Scandinavian people are some of the most homogenous people in the world. We can recognize eachother, if we meet on a crowded Trafalgar Square. In fact, I enjoy to sit at a cafe in a foreign country and point out exactly who are Scandinavians and who are not. I am right 99% of the time. I win beers this way!

Fair skin and blond hair... The other day I met a blonde guy with fair skin picmentation on my job. "Goodmorning" he said in Danish with no accent at all. But I could tell immediately that he was not Danish. And I was right. He was a Polish worker, and all he had learned in Danish was to say "Godmorgen".

Don't mess with a Scandinavian, telling him that there is nothing like a "typical" Scandinavian. Because there are. And I am proud to say this.

This is entertainment and the homogeneity of the Scandinavian people can't be stressed enough.He can win beers by spotting other Scandinavians and as I told Lawpeaker from personal experience, a Belgian friend of mine, Johan, once told me that I could settle anywhere in Flanders or the Netherlands and be overlooked as a native. Here's my answer for me..I'm fair, or pale, on account of Granddad McDonald.His primary genetic influences were German and Scottish and they appeared in my mother, Aunt June, Cousin Johnny and mysef as well. You, sweetheart, I think resemble your Irish Sheehan ancestors as well as the Scottish Herriotts. Your Dad also has Dutch lineage, according to the research, and I think that to a degree that comes out in your face and eye color. Straightforward, about us. I once read an article by an English journalist that was basically saying "How come those Swedes can get that deep, bronze tan, and we become red like the monkey's ass?" :D I wish I had the link to that article, it was hilarious.

Anyway I've seen some of my Swedish friends tan much smoother and deeper than myself even - I can't get bronze, I become red and look all stupid afterwards. :p

Yes, and famous for their addiction to tan cream that make them look orange. ;) Even Norwegian moisturisers contain a tanning agent to make the skin look "tanned". How much of this look is natural is up for debate.

Last summer (or was it two summers ago) a group of swedish friends went sailing in the Mediterranean.

I met them in Athens as they came to pick up the boat from the marina, and they were "white as the fallen snow" :D

Around September, I saw their post-vacation photos on their Facebook profiles. They were so deeply tanned as if they'd spent the summer working outside in the fields :D Now, don't tell me that is a fake tan! Those guys spent the last two months on a boat under the sun!

In any case, we can ask the sailor. I'm sure he'll verify the tanning hypothesis. ;)

I spent approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes at the effort.
Used proper tanning stuff...was supposed to NOT let you burn.
Spent the next week in the hospital.

I was a teen then and have made it a habit since to NOT go outside unless I am well covered up or it is night time.
I am famous for skinny dipping in the moonlight!

What i know is that Lawspeaker Zankapfel and Heimmacht have very fair skin and from some other i dont know photos. My rank 1 is Zankapfel and then Lawspeaker and on rank 3 Heimmacht!! :) I had no sun for nearly 1 and a half months and i am very pale because of a disease i had but that does not count i think.

Despite having a good ability to tan, Mongoloids have a tendency to get age spots (irregular pigmentation due to age related breakdown of melanocytes) from a relatively young age. I've seen Asians with faces covered in age spots from as young as their late 20's and early 30's. This is classic. In the beauty and cosmetic industry, one of the most popular skin treatments among East Asians (besides overall skin lightening) is for evening skin tone and fading pigmentation irregularities.

In very, very fair skinned individuals, freckles (irregular skin pigmentation due to an incapacity to cope with UV exposure) appear as soon as they receive significant sun exposure.

So obviously if someone has freckles (as opposed to age spots) their skin is so fair (lacking in melanin) that their melanin production isn't able to adequately offer protection from the UV ray levels they've been exposed to... unlike darker skinned individuals that tan adequately, but develop a breakdown in the skin's normal function.

Of course, I've seen mullattos with something resembling freckles too... but rather than being an indication that their skin is too fair to cope with UV exposure, it seems to be some kind of congenital skin dysfunction that serves no actual purpose (unlike freckles in very fair skinned individuals).

Here are a few pale shots. If you notice any color it is surely the color of my blood showing through.
Photo #1 Is shot mid winter. I had gotten mild frostbite on my nose, this is why I have that red splotch on it!
Photo #2 Is a photo of the snot-cicles that form when working outside at -28.88° Celsius.

I doubt that I'm the palest member here but when I get sunburnt, it's quite a contrast with my natural colouration. Here I am swimming off of Florida's Gulf coast just this past April. My face and neck were quite burnt whereas my shoulders, well, not so much. :rolleyes:
