Gazprom gas prices for Lithuania higher than never before
Next year, the price of Russian gas in Lithuania will go up to 1,600 Lt per one thousand cubic metres, which is an unprecedented record high in Europe, reports www.lrt.lt (http://www.lrt.lt/), with reference to the newspaper ‘Verslo žinios’.
Two weeks ago, Russian gas monopoly, during the shareholders’ meeting announced of its plans to sell three billion cubic meters of gas to Lithuania and Latvia in 2014 for a “Japanese” price. It has been announced that the price level may rise to a record US$600 (around 1,600 Lt) per 1,000 cubic metres.Russian experts did not believe these prices: it was considered that there was a mistake made in the proposal of Gazprom; i.e. instead of indicating dollars, prices were given in euros.“The Ministry of Energy is not aware of the predicted Gazprom gas prices in 2014, our negotiators are currently seeking that Russian gas in Lithuania would cost less than it is now,” the newspaper “Verslo žinios” quoted the adviser of energy minister Daiva Rimašauskaitė.
