BBC: Italy's struggle against illegal immigration is intensifying with the authorities determined to stem the flow of people trying to get in to the European Union through its borders.
Year after year, immigrants risk their lives by boarding rickety boats heading for Europe. For many of the migrants who have reached its shores, Italy is far from the promised land they were expecting.
