What do you get when you cross a zebra and a donkey? A "zonkey (http://now.msn.com/zonkey-a-zebra-hybrid-named-ippo-born-at-animal-reserve-in-florence)," of course!

Well, that's one common name for the unusual mix.

In a rare birth in Italy, an animal reserve near Florence welcomed a zebra-donkey hybrid (http://video.repubblica.it/edizione/firenze/e-nato-ippo-un-po-zebra-un-po-asino/135697/134231) to the world last week. Named Ippo, the zonkey looks like a typical donkey, but carries the stripes of a zebra.

Officials said Ippo is in good health (http://www.ansa.it/web/notizie/regioni/toscana/2013/07/22/Nato-Ippo-raro-incrocio-zebra-asino_9059919.html), according to local reports. The offspring of a breed of donkey from Amiata and a zebra adopted from a local zoo, the zonkey was not bred intentionally (http://corrierefiorentino.corriere.it/firenze/notizie/cronaca/2013/22-luglio-2013/si-chiama-ippo-incrocio-raro-mamma-asina-babbo-zebra-2222288818020.shtml): A determined male zebra scaled a fence to get into a female donkey's enclosure.

Nothing unusual, really. The species in the Equus genera seem to interbreed readily.

Doesn't look like a Zonkey, looks more like a Donbra, or Dombra!
