The 30-year-old Austrian heat record falls - and exactly where he was located. In Dellach Carinthia's Drau was on Saturday afternoon, according to the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) with 39.9 degrees, the highest temperature ever measured in Austria

Nice! I like it hot and humid. It's nice banging weather. Wait till sun sets and then go for it. Sweaty bodies in the heat of passion, there is nothing like it!

It has been bad enough here that I am considering having air-conditioning installed, behind a nice piece of neo-classical fretwork of course.

New peak of the heat wave

New temperature record: in Neusiedl am See today were measured shortly before 14:00 40.6 degrees. Not only a new record in Burgenland, but also unique in Austria.

The funny thing is, Austria`s football champion Austria Vienna played yesterday a game in Iceland in the
3rd round of Champions League qualification and managed to grab a draw which enabled them to progress narrowly.
And guess what. It lightly snowed during the game ;)

Even by Australian standards that's hot.

Its because of Eastern Austrias continental climate, some call it Steppe Climate
Extremly hot in summer and very cold in winter.

Fortunatly the heat wave has subsided now, at least for a while.

LOL climate of eastern austria is far from the continental steppe climate. its a typical mild central european climate :)

There are places in Israel where this is ordinary summer weather...

Anyway, Here in Israel we actually got pretty mild weather for summer...even thought We'll top at +33c in Jerusalem for the next few days.

Aye, but Israel is a desert, so it is acceptable. A friend of mine travelled to Israel (Taglit) last summer and she said she got temperatures of 45ºC!

Israeli weather can vary from blizzard to extreme heat wave, but yes, even in Jerusalem, one of the cooler places in Israel, July 2012 was an awful +40c in the shade, and forget about shade, because extreme Mediterranean climate means there is no rain at all in summer.
As I said, this year was pretty mild, with around +30-33c in most days. Despite these hot summer, higher places in Israel occationally go low enough for it to snow in winter (even thought this is wet snow aside of Mt. Hermon), it did snow last January, but it didn't last long sadly...
Anyway, if I may ask, how's winter in Austria? As far as I know, it's around zero...or am I mistaking?

As mentioned winters are usually very cold, esp. in Western Alpine regions but also in the North East.
In Vienna and South Eastern parts it can get cold too occaionally but its not so severe

Yeah, I've seen pictures of snow in Yerushalayim, very nice. I don't know how the winter in Austria is, sorry, am not from there.
