Interesting parallel. Of my four brothers, the oldest and the youngest are halvsies.....both obviously from different mothers than each other. We never met my oldest brother until he was already an adult....back when I was 12-13. He died in 2002 due to complications from Type I Diabetes.

That reason is the invention of birth control, which is a sin to use. Before the pill, families regularly had 8+ children.

Also, I don't plan on being very active in their lives. I see raising children as fundamentally the mother's duty. I don't plan on being completely absent, but I'm not going to take a very active role in raising them, either.

I was raised without any contact with my paternal-half-siblings, their mother took then away from my dad after their divorce, so they are kinda strangers to me. But I have 5 nieces/nephews from them :) (but can you believe my brother didn't give my father's surname to his children?, my grandfather got very upset, as you can imagine my dad didn't raise them, and had little contact to them). Their family diverges from my mine in many aspects, sadly I don't feel that close to them.
