He wasn't murdered. He shot a policeman twice and was shot as a result.

Police that did NOT identify themselves until they had chased him back into his own property is murder in my opinion, and he was set up by a doctor who repeatedly harrassed him, and after Cooper told him to get off his property with his gun in his hand, the doc went off and told the police that he assaulted him. After the police had gunned him down, he was left to bleed to death on his own doorstep and not a single doctor treated him.
