View Full Version : Does it surprise you that crocodiles and birds are more closely related than to anything else?

This is so random but I just had to ask. Birds and crocodiles have a common ancestor, and are more related to one another than to any other animal. I.e. crocodiles (and alligators, caimans, etc.) related more to birds than to lizards.

Does this surprise anyone else? I know both lay eggs, both have four-chambered hearts, etc. but it's just so shocking.

No, they have quite a lot of similarities beside what you've mentioned like the duck's beak looks like the croc's mouth...One can also see this by the similarity in the structure of the feet...

I also read somewhere that whales or/and dolphins were something like a wolf once before lol

No. I think the T-Rex's closest living relative today is the Hen. :p And crocodiles and birds resemble to dinsoaurs and very ancient world living creatures more than anything else I think. Anyhow most birds are adorable or inspiring while Crocodiles are not.

What is funny is, crocodilians taste like chicken. Eat fried alligator and you'll never know the difference.

This is even more surprising

Elephant's closest living relative is the Rock Hyrax:
