Willy Derby - Grebbelied
Ver van het gewoel der grote steden
Waar de Grebbestrijd werd uitgestreden
Rusten tussen 't stille groen
Zij die door hun plicht te doen
Nimmer meer terug gekomen zijn
refr.: Koop eens een handjevol bloemen
En leg ze neer op zo'n graf
Want daar rust een held
Die op het Grebbeveld
Zijn leven voor 't vaderland gaf
Zij die in vrede hier slapen
Hebben hun offer gebracht
Zachtjes zingt de wind
Voor veler moeders kind
Sluimer, sluimer zacht
't Hoogste wat een mensenkind kan geven
Is het offer van zijn eigen leven
Eerbied en ook dankbaarheid
Rust als plicht ten allen tijd
Nu op elke man van Neerlands stam
Moeder, uw jongen ging heen
Maar draagt uw leed niet alleen
Kinderen verdrietig en nog klein
Laat ons 1 familie zijn

Louis Davids - De kleine man
Maatschappelijk Teleurgestelden (1929...)
Zoo'n doodgewone man met een confectiepakkie an
Wij verzorgen onze medeburgers tegenwoordig best:
Zoo'n doodgewone man met een confectiepakkie an
Zoo'n doodgewone man met een confectiepakkie an
Zoo'n doodgewone man met een confectiepakkie an
Zoo'n man met een afgesneden linnen frontje an
Zoo'n doodgewone man met een confectiepakkie an

Omdat iedereen daar lacht

Refrein
(Ben jij ook zo bang)
(Ben jij ook zo bang)
(Ben jij ook zo bang)
Ben jij ook zo bang
Ben jij ook zo bang
Ben jij ook zo bang
(Ben jij ook zo bang)
(Ben jij ook zo bang)
(Ben jij ook zo bang)
Ben jij ook zo bang
Ben jij ook zo bang

Fluitsma & Van Tijn - 15 miljoen mensen.
1996.

Noa zo'n zes zeven acht negen uur

Ja 't is heus woar, as ie 't zol willen
Jannie en Allemannie doen an dizze grill
Woar? In Langelo

On August 2, 2012 it will be 400 years ago that Saskia van Uylenburgh, Rembrandt van Rijn's first wife, was born.
http://www.musicksmonument.nl (http://www.musicksmonument.nl/)
For the commemoration year 2012-2013, the Foundation Musick's Monument has developed a music presentation dedicated to Saskia.
http://www.musicksmonument.com/www.mu... (http://www.musicksmonument.com/www.musicksmonument.com/SASKIA_VAN_UYLENBURGH.html)
The presentation features music from Valerius' "Gedenck-Clanck", which reflects the 'Orange' community spirit of the Netherlands, but also music by Dowland, which the Contra-Remonstrant preacher and music lover Adriaen Smout (1569-1646) noted down for lute recitals.
In 1626 Adrianus Valerius' Nederlandtsche Gedenck-clanck came out -- the most memorable of many song books from the Dutch Golden Age. The events that shaped the destiny of the Netherlands in those days are reflected in it: the struggle against Spain and, subsequently, the prosperity of the Northern Netherlands and the development of the colonial empire.
The Smout lute book is the best known hand-written and the most comprehensive lute book in the world, containing transcriptions of music from various countries at the dawn of the Golden Age.
Saskia is very likely to have encountered music during her childhood, considering she was the daughter of the mayor of Leeuwarden.
This Rombertus van Uylenburgh was invited by William of Orange for consultation in Delft in 1584. After their shared dinner, William of Orange was assassinated.
The Dutch Foundation Musick's Monument is specialised in the production of music films and music presentations.

Daar sterf 'n kersvlam in sy eie was,
There smothers the flame of the candle in it’s own wax,
The burns a fire and chokes in its own ash,
Even if your light burns now, it will dim,
Elke bly fakkel verdwyn soos die dou.
Each happy torch fades like the dew.
There the wind is quieting down and softly fades the rain,
Even that, after all, was borrowed from somewhere
Can you see the sea, it clouds and blue
Elke bly brander breek tog so gou.
Each happy wave crashes so rapidly.
Chorus
Will you thorough it all shun the wind from me
Laat skyn die somerson lou op my neer
Let the balmy summer sun shine down on you
I will find the dirt road for both of us
Till where it one day becomes one with the wind.
There the wind is quieting down and softly fades the rain,
Even that, after all, was borrowed from somewhere
Can you see the sea, it coulds and blue
Elke bly brander breek tog so gou.
Each happy wave crashes so rapidly.
Chorus 2x

Composers: Cornelis Schuyt, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck Artist: Matthias Havinga This attractive collection brings together organ music from the Dutch Golden Age; a period of great prosperity and power for the Republic of the Netherlands. During this era culture blossomed, with art, particularly painting and music, reaching a hitherto unknown level of refinement as exemplified in the works of Rembrandt and Sweelinck, among others. Cities of the Republic were centers of power, and the position of city organist was one of great prestige, as he was essentially responsible for coordinating local musical culture. His musical adaptability led him to compose in all manner of forms, as can be heard on this release – which effectively offers a postcard from the Dutch Golden Age through its variety of compositions: psalm arrangements, fantasias, dances and secular songs. As arguably the greatest Dutch composer of all time, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck’s music is a particularly prominent feature of the disc. Of his contrasting variation sets, many were based on secular songs (whose subjects range widely): More Palatino is a bawdy drinking song and Mein junges Leben hat ein End a melancholic melody in the ‘vanitas’ style, linking closely to popular themes in paintings of the time. Of the musical psalm settings for the organ, which were used to accompany the singing of a massed congregation and also performed during public “concerts” while people wandered through the church in great numbers, Anthoni van Noordt’s setting of Psalm 24 is particularly notable, beginning soberly, featuring an adventurous, expressive second variation, and ending grandly with the melody in the pedal. The Faber/Blank organ of the Jacobuskerk, Zeerijp, is well suited to the repertoire; dating from 1651, it was reconstructed to its original condition in 1979. In the hands of Matthias Havinga, who has won prizes at various international organ competitions and performed extensively in many European countries and in the USA, it is essential in recreating the sound world of the music as closely as possible. This beautiful programme, recorded in 2014, brings us back to the Golden Age of the Netherlands, the 16th and 17th century, in which cultural life blossomed thanks to the economical prosperity brought by the overseas trade. Wealthy merchants commissioned works by artists like Rembrandt, Vermeer, Ruischdael and others. Also musical life flourished, and musicians from all over Europe came to hear and study with Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. Organist Matthias Havinga selected a beautiful bouquet of works by Dutch composers: Sweelinck, Van Noordt, Schuyt, Havingha (an ancient ancestor of the artist..?) and others. 00:00:00 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajeOOcsEGhg&t=0s) Fantasia chromatica in D Minor ŕ 4 SwWV 258 00:08:37 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajeOOcsEGhg&t=517s) Almande Gratie [More Palatino] SwWV 318 [4 variations] 00:13:02 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajeOOcsEGhg&t=782s) 6 Variations on “Mein junges Leben hat ein End” in A Minor, SwWV 324 00:20:13 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajeOOcsEGhg&t=1213s) XLIX. He studied composition and conducting with Franz Wüllner at Cologne University (1897--1902). In 1902 he was awarded a prize for his First Symphony by the Beethoven Haus in Bonn. During World War I van Gilse and his family returned to the Netherlands, and in 1917 he was appointed conductor of the Utrecht SO, with whom he gave many performances of works by contemporary French and Dutch composers. A conflict with the young Dutch composer Willem Pijper led to his resignation in 1922. After a short stay in Switzerland van Gilse settled in Berlin, where he started work on his autobiography (MS, NL-DHgm). He returned to the Netherlands, where he was appointed principal of the Utrecht Conservatory. In 1937 he resigned his position in order to devote himself to composition. In 1940 he completed his opera Thijl, based on the story of Tijl Uilenspiegel. After the Germans invaded the Netherlands in May 1940, van Gilse publicly opposed the banning of Jews from concert halls. After organizing a petition in protest against the Nazification of Dutch artistic life, he was accused of high treason and went into hiding. During this period his two sons, also active in the resistance movement, were killed by the Nazis. Van Gilse could not cope with his grief and died after a short illness. In addition to his work as a composer, van Gilse played a role in founding institutions designed to promote the interests of Dutch composers: the Genootschap van Nederlandsche Componisten (1911), the Bureau voor Muziek Auteursrecht (BUMA, the composers' performing rights society, 1913). In 1935 van Gilse founded the Stichtung Nederlandsche Muziekbelangen to promote the performance of Dutch music. The foundation's archive containing microfilms of Dutch music manuscripts became, after van Gilse's death, the basis of the publishing house Donemus (founded in 1947). Van Gilse took a relatively long time to develop a personal style as a composer. His German training, and the music of Mahler especially, left its mark on his early works up to 1916. Those written during and shortly after his years in Utrecht (1917--1922) testify to his intensive study of the works of French composers such as Debussy, Ravel and Roussel, particularly in their use of short motifs, augmented chords, parallel harmonies and their striving after colourful, transparent orchestration. From these German and French influences, a synthesis gradually developed, culminating in the cantata Der Kreis des Lebens (1928--1929), the opera Thijl (1938--1940) and the unfinished declamation Rotterdam (1942). In these three works van Gilse achieved an individual style, which rejects the anti-Romanticism of the French-style works. In Rotterdam and Thijl he makes use of elements from folk music.

Rondo: Allegro Molto, Energico - 33:36 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Efuqh43oR6A&t=2016s) Orchestra: Residentie Orkest Conductor: Matthias Bamert Cornelis Dopper was a Dutch composer and conductor. He studied the violin, the piano and composition at the Leipzig Conservatory (1888--1890). His most important teacher was Oscar Paul, who lectured on the history of music and musical aesthetics. Dopper was otherwise self-taught. Back in the Netherlands, he completed his first opera Het blinde meisje van Castel-Cuillé in 1892. In 1897 he became violinist and later also repetiteur and assistant conductor at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, until this company was dissolved in 1903. In 1906, Mengelberg performed his Rembrandt Symphony with the Concertgebouw Orchestra. Between 1906 and 1908 Dopper worked in the United States as one of the conductors of the Savage Opera Company; among other things, he conducted the American premičre of Madama Butterfly. At the suggestion of Mengelberg, he was nominated as second conductor of the Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1908. He mainly worked as a repetiteur but also gave the Dutch premičres of pieces such as Debussy's La mer. In 1918 the critic Vermeulen, following the premičre of Dopper's Zuiderzee Symphony, made known his rejection of Dopper, who was regarded as conservative. This incident led to demotion: until he was dismissed in 1931, Dopper chiefly continued to conduct summer and popular concerts, and the youth concerts which he himself initiated in 1923. His most popular orchestral work, the eclectic Ciaconna gotica (1920), was performed throughout the world by Mengelberg. Dopper was not an innovator as a composer, but possessed a great instinct for orchestral colouring. His interest in antiquity is apparent from works such as the Symphonia epica based on Homer and the orchestral studies Päân I and II. But above all Dopper was a Dutch composer, as shown by the titles of his Rembrandt, Amsterdam and Zuiderzee Symphonies. In this last work he neatly combines melodies from Valerius's songbook Nederlandtsche Gedenck-clanck (1626). Only three of Dopper's works have been published; his complete works are preserved in the Gemeentemuseum, The Hague.

Allegro molto e con fuoco - 17:41 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DIC7KXa3jk&t=1061s) Doris Hochscheid, cello Frans van Ruth, piano dedicated to Marix Loevensohn The CD and more information on Dutch Cello Sonatas are available at: www.cellosonate.nl Henriëtte Bosmans was a Dutch pianist and composer. Her father, Henri Bosmans, had been principal cellist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, while her mother, Sara Benedicts, taught piano for 40 years at the Amsterdam Conservatory. Henriëtte studied the piano with her mother, gaining a piano teaching certificate cum laude from the Maatschappij tot Bevordering der Toonkunst in Utrecht at the age of 17. By the 1920s her career as a pianist was firmly established. She appeared with leading European conductors such as Monteux, Mengelberg and Ansermet, with a repertory including Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Grieg, Franck and Debussy. Between 1929 and 1949 she performed 22 times as soloist with the Concertgebouw Orchestra. She was also active in a number of chamber music ensembles. She began composing in her teens, studying harmony and counterpoint with Jan Willem Kersbergen and, later, instrumentation with Cornelis Dopper (1921--1922). Many of her works were inspired by musicians with whom she performed. Her friendships with the cellists Marix Loevensohn and Frieda Belinfante resulted in several works for cello, including two concertos and Počme for cello and orchestra. Until 1927 her music was characterized by broad, lyrical lines, with clearly discernible Romantic influences. In the years she studied with Pijper (1927--1930), her style quickly became less Romantic and the instrumentation more transparent and colouristic, suggestive of the techniques and atmosphere of Debussy and Ravel. The Concertino for piano and orchestra, which was selected for the ISCM festival in Geneva in 1929, is harmonically related to Debussy. In 1934 Bosmans became engaged to the violinist Francis Koene, who died the following year. The Concertstuk for violin and orchestra, intended for Koene, was given its first performance by Louis Zimmerman in 1935 with the Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Mengelberg. It received many performances at home and abroad, including the USA. Koene's death, together with the impending war, were probably the main reasons that Bosmans stopped composing until after the war. During the war Bosmans refused to become a member of the Kultuurkamer, which was required of all Dutch musicians. At the end of August 1942, performance of her music was banned. She earned an income playing in private concerts. After the war Bosmans concentrated almost solely on vocal compositions. She wrote the passionate Doodenmars ('March of the Dead') to a text by Clara Eggink, and a more hopeful orchestral song, Lead, kindly light (1945), to a poem by Cardinal John Henry Newman, first performed on 3 November 1945 by the soprano Jo Vincent and the Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Adrian Boult. In the last years of her life Bosmans formed a duo with the French singer Noëmie Perugia, who inspired her to write a large number of songs, mostly on French texts. Her songs vary strikingly in character and have a high degree of expressive tension. Many are narrative and ballad-like, the music artfully underlining the text. She was equally skilled in setting both French and German poetry, such as Heine's Das macht den Menschen glücklich. After the war she also regularly contributed articles on music to various Dutch newspapers and periodicals. She received a posthumous knighthood.

I consider the army a good school of life. Immediately visible by the person, he served in the army or not (if 2 years, now recruits serve one year). Not everyone agrees with me, it is also a popular opinion that it is better to pass this school in absentia.

No. I received my draft letter but I didn't have to report in. This because the draft had just been suspended (but still on the books) but, technically, I am available for a call up until I am 45. So, if there would ever be a mobilisation of some sort, then they would face 2 generations that have never been drafted before.

That's for sure. In my family, too, there would be grief (except the father, he is a dry military man).
In addition, the senselessness of war has now become clear - by killing each other, we will only please the leftists. And to eliminate the cause of wars - our hands are too short.

The Dutch virtuoso cellist Hans Kindler abandoned the cello for a conducting career after the First World War and in 1931 founded the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington, D.C. For his debut concert with them he played three 16th Century Dutch Tunes which he'd orchestrated. Ten years later he recorded two of them: "In Times of Stress" and "See How Strong This Struggling Nation." This old 1941 78rpm disc was re-released some years ago, along with others from the same period (their copyright having long expired) on a Biddulph CD, in transfers by Mark Obert-Thorn (WHL 063).

In these three works van Gilse achieved an individual style, which rejects the anti-Romanticism of the French-style works. In Rotterdam and Thijl he makes use of elements from folk music.

Heinrich Isaac (1450 – 1517), a Netherlandish Renaissance composer of South Netherlandish Origin. He wrote a variety of musical composition (much of it vocal). This one, Heinrich Isaac's "Grand Six-Voice Motet Angeli Archangeli" (composed during the 1490s) has a remarkably blissful harmony.

Verses Translated into English:
O Virgin, glory of the church,
O most renowned of the world, hail,
and turning point in great glory
of the great choir of the reverend holy house,
and as the greatest high power, you are open
innumerably with gracious hand.
You, dear hope, come,
you of the sea, you rule of life in you,
and, for virgins, you
steadfast pillar of God.
All praise you
and applaud you everywhere, multitudes,
and your name is spread far in the city.
Thus may you have whatever you prayed for
in your pure will. Thus enriching life,
may God grant you the world, that holy purple
may color your brow,
and a cloak may encircle your holy
head like a diadem. Amen.

In the song they are making fun of a socialist politician that was prime minister of the Netherlands at the time. Because it was hard to get oil a law was introduced called ''autoloze zondag'' meaning ''carless sunday''. This meant that it was forbidden to drive a car on sundays to save oil.

Op het STOKJE van JOHAN VAN OLDENBARNEVELDT, Vader des Vaderlands. / Engelsche Fortuyn - ADRIANUM VALERIUM
Paula Bär-Giese sopraan & tekstplaatsing
Hans Meijer - sopraan luit
Mijn wens behoede u onverrot,
O Stok en stut, die geen verrader,
Maar 's vrijdoms stut en Hollands Vader
Gestut hebt, op dat Moordschavot;
En klimmen, op de hoge trappen;

The locations mentioned can be found here (https://www.google.nl/maps/dir/Herzogenrath,+Duitsland/Merkstein,+Duitsland/Prummern,+52511+Geilenkirchen,+Duitsland/W%C3%BCrm,+52511+Geilenkirchen,+Duitsland/@50.979629,6.1034896,11.38z/data=!4m26!4m25!1m5!1m1!1s0x47c0a26164b531d3:0x680 3d62c5e873f1!2m2!1d6.091241!2d50.8649918!1m5!1m1!1 s0x47c0a259ed3c2f19:0x262760fd637f7301!2m2!1d6.118 8262!2d50.8861012!1m5!1m1!1s0x47c0a429c41ab747:0xa 2760fee0f7d8b0!2m2!1d6.1686993!2d50.9690906!1m5!1m 1!1s0x47c0a673876b138d:0xb0253f70d1dda8df!2m2!1d6. 1784977!2d50.9920964!3e0).
Tonight is a night of death and rage
The moon hides itself in scared silence
Behind the clouds
As the raging storm even held its breath
A night in which nothing good takes place (lit. a night in which nothing happens in God's will).
Black as it will be remembered
Black as the clay that stuck to their clogs
As the (fat) rain falls down, striking every leaf
In the forest, that shudders like the horse
That shivers underneath Joseph Kirchhoffs (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Kirchhoffs)
They paused at Prummern (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prummern),
Where an icy "yes"
Like a curse
Came as a reply to every name
When the roll-call was taken
They marched from Merkstein (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merkstein) and Herzogenrath (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herzogenrath)
As dark shadows
Head for Würm (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/W%C3%BCrm_(Geilenkirchen))
Through open field.
Heavy is the wind
That blows through the little village
But only a minor breeze when compared
To the storm that followed
The madness is great
Like the fear of death
That I felt
When I saw the Devil at night
Like the lashing of the rain
Bullets fly back and forth
A heavy door is smashed in with brute force.
With (nothing) but a rifle and prayer
A few rise up (manage to get out of bed)
But their efforts and pride
Are quickly broken and subdued
While the rain continues to fall
(....... Didn't get that part)
As troublesome as a falling horse.
But if you sleep at a farmstead
In Würm tonight
Then I wouldn't give a Reichsthaler (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichsthaler)
For your life
I heard thunder in Ubach (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubach)
Saw lighting in Beek (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beek_(Limburg))
And a blizzard that carried us
To Kerkrade (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerkrade)
But never before
Things were as wild
As in that heavy storm that hit Würm
Last night.

Song in Limburgic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limburgish) about the social conditions of the 18th century in the area that is now both Dutch and Belgian Limburg (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limburg_(Netherlands)#History) and the adjacent territories in Germany was carved up between the Dutch Republic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generality_Lands), the Austrian Netherlands, the Prussians, the Prince-Bishopric of Ličge and several smaller players and all raped and ravished the area with abandon while maintaining the old feudal stranglehold over the population. This treatment may well have contributed to the rise of the Buckriders (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckriders).

How they tip their hats for a lady
That's wearing her white pearls
Around her slender neck
There is no compassion
For he who has to eat from the dirt
Whose tables are not
Decked out according to etiquette
How boastful will a pastor enrich himself
For magistrate and Church are in control
How the Devil keeps shitting on the biggest pile (Dutch/West German expression: the rich keep getting richer)
There in the lands across the Meuse (the lands were known as the Landen van Overmaas)
Their mouths are frothing
For one because of wine or liqueur
For the other because of poverty and misery
With hunger's skeleton at the door (expression: starving to death)
How boastful will a pastor enrich himself
For magistrate and Church are in control
How the Devil keeps shitting on the biggest pile
There in the lands across the Meuse
How they are hanging in the soft satin cushions
With a lady or a gent to their fancy
How they are hanging from the branches of the oak trees
With dead eyes and the vomit still on their chin
How boastful will a pastor enrich himself
For magistrate and Church are in control
How the Devil keeps shitting on the biggest pile
There in the lands across the Meuse

This is the Belgian-Limburgic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limburg_(Belgium)) version but Dutch-Limburg uses the same anthem with the addition of another stanza that is usually omitted as well.
Daar is mijn vaderland, Limburgs dierbaar oord! (2×)

The female singer (Geike Arnaert) is Flemish and the group BLŘF is from the Dutch province of Zealand (the song is about the beach of Zoutelande (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoutelande), a village on Zealand's "Riviera" on the (former) island of Walcheren). Dutch popular folk music received a hefty dose of foreign influences over the years. The band Pater Moeskroen is a clear example of this and in particularly the song "Laat maar waaien" (Lamarwaaje - simply being a Brabantic dialect phonetic spelling):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CRRfPkFytU
Popular folk usually combines quick-pased music with funny lyrics making fun of life itself (and the lyrics invite listeners and concert goers to sing along) - in this case- the scenario being of a man in love/lust set to serenade his beloved but he mistook the house so he isn't rewarded with her love and a good night of psychical action, but a heavy flower pot thrown at him by the angry occupant !

Boudewijn De Groot (https://www.songteksten.nl/artiest/728/boudewijn-de-groot.htm) - Woningnood

This was one of my favorite songs when I was about 13. It's Dutch trance / super saw mega trance / fake trance (using Ishkur's terms) by Gouryella (Ferry Corsten and Tiesto):
