Outrage over bull-killing ritual

JOHANNESBURG - Animal welfare representatives from 10 African countries have petitioned and appealed to the South African Parliament to denounce the annual killing of a bull with bare hands at the First Fruits Festival in KwaZulu-Natal.
The representatives have called on Parliament to halt the ritual saying it is “unbecoming of the modern face of Africa”.
The First Fruits Festival is held annually on the first Saturday in December.

Quite different.You do not have 40 toreros (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torero_%28bullfighter%29) dismanteling a bull bare handed.
IE pulling out the tongue,couching the eyes,ripping the testicles off and then beating it to death lasting about 40 minutes.

Corrida may a blood sport and knifing it in various ways is not my scene either,but it is a far cry from what they do here.

Every year around 2,000 whales are driven ashore and cruelly slaughtered in the Faroe Islands, mid-way between the Shetland Islands and Iceland. For centuries the Faroe Islanders have hunted pilot whales, driving entire schools into killing bays, where they are speared or gaffed from boats, dragged ashore and butchered with knives. Although the Islands are a protectorate of Denmark, they have their own Government and regulations governing the pilot whale hunt or "grind" as it is known.

Aside from the fact that the number of North Atlantic long-finned pilot whales is unknown and they are listed as 'strictly protected' by the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats, this is an act of barbarism and pointlessness. By slaughtering 100 whales at a time, the Faroese are wiping out entire pods and family groups. They are removing building blocks from the gene pool of the species and damaging the web of life in the North Atlantic and the North Sea.


The inhabitants of the Faroe Islands have no subsistence need for whale meat, and much of the flesh is left to rot and be dumped; it cannot be exported, as it is polluted with heavy metals and other toxins and therefore cannot meet EU heath standards for human food.

According to Faroese legislation it is also permitted to hunt certain species of small cetaceans other than pilot whales. These include: Bottlenose dolphin; Atlantic white-beaked dolphin; Atlantic white-sided dolphin; and Harbour porpoise (There are also specific regulations for the hunting of harbour porpoise. Harbour porpoises are killed with shotguns).

Again it is not inherent in whiteys,but it is inherent in white kaffirs and for every 1 white kaffir there are 1000 black kaffirs.

Boerseun, I recommend you watch the 1960's Italian shockumentary called Africa Addio. It's a very good film but graphic and sickening in parts. Not recommended "family" type viewing, in other words.

It presents a fairly grim picture of both whitey's and blacks whilst on the rampage through Africa. Sometimes it's hard to tell which group are worse.

My father was in Kenya (MayU Mau),he too did some gruesome things,but it was a revenge reaction not a systematic killing.
Sometimes when I look into his eyes I can see the killer in him,when trapped or when in a defending mode--his family and friends.
Possibly the killer mode dates back from his Japanese concentration camp days when he was a child.

We are a lucky generation not to have experienced a grand-scale war.

And then they wonder why South Africa is such a violent country with one of the highest murder rates in the world!!!- Exposing children to this atrocitiy and all the other superstitious, backwards ritual slaughterings cannot possibly be good for their development.
