He is the new Olympiacos manager.

He is the last in line of Iberian coaches (Valverde, Micel, Vítor Pereira, Marco Silva, Víctor Sánchez, Paulo Bento, Óscar García) who have managed the club in recent years.

In my opinion he is as good as Marco Silva and better than the rest of your list at their time in Olympiacos at least, Valverde now has more experience. He has been consistently good for different clubs, so i expect him to do well at Olympiacos although this is the first time he works abroad.

Well Valverde is considered the most successful coach in the recent history of Olympiacos. In his 3 year tenure he won 3 championships and out of 65 games played he won 50, that's a 77% win percentage. As for Martins he will have a rather difficult task in the coming season because of the club's budget cuts, something that was not a problem in the past. (Olympiacos for 2 decades was winning the Greek's league's championship so the club received a lot of money from UEFA for participating in the European champion's league). This year the club finished 3rd , so no champions league money for them. Also as most non Olympiacos fans know, it will also be difficult because for the last 10 years or so Olympiacos was treated favorably in the pitch by the referees and this is not the case anymore.
