Romanian President Traian Băsescu said today that Serbia “needs to make many more steps in order to become a democratic state” , because “at the political level” it does not understand that recognizing minorities is “of utmost importance” as this brings to general improvement of bilateral relations.

Băsescu spoke today about Romanian minority in Timok at the opening of the Summer University in the city of Izvorul Mureşului in Transylvania. The university is intended for education of Romanian minority in other countries.

Băsescu said that, during the accession negotiations between EU and Serbia will be also considered an agreement of Mixed Commission of March 1 in Brussels, which predicts what Serbia should do for Romanian minority in Timok.

Bucharest conditioned its consent to grant Serbia candidate for EU membership status with signing of this agreement.

The President said the relations between Romania and Serbia would be more meaningful if “the questions of Romanians from Timok was treated more openly”.

Băsescu also criticized Hungary for interference in matters of Romanian counties where Hungarians are majority, because extreme organizations are looking for ethnic autonomy.

“Hungary is the focal point of instability, not only for Romania, but for the region,” the president said.

Romania warns Hungary because “it reached the point where it should give up of all reserves” because “it cannot go on like this anymore”. This is the last year when “some of Hungarian citizens are walking leisurely in Transylvania”.

Băsescu said that Romania’s autonomous regions will not exist anymore, and that “under the direction of Stalin was created Autonomous Province of Hungarians in Romania”.

“I can guarantee you that there will never again be administrative organization on the ethnic grounds”, and “there will not be an autonomous province in Romania,” the president said.

Who does he think he is?
Because of his Roma policy everywhere in europe are roma now.
And now he wants to please the Romanian "Nationalist" and says it specially to the Szekler that they will never get a autonomous region.
Cant Hungary go to the European court for this?

Cant Hungary go to the European court for this?

EU doesn't care...

And this is so hypocritical that its not funny... Romanian lecturing Serbia on minority rights, when Serbia has more generous rights than his own "country".
