This freight steamer fell victim to Lake Superior on Independence Day in 1883. This ship crashed onto Au Sable reef on July 4, 1883. It weighed 645 tons, and was 200 feet long. She was accidentally run aground in foggy conditions when her crew lost their way. After other ships attempted to pull her off of the reef, the Mary Jarecki was left alone to be destroyed by Lake Superior. This shipwreck is on the beach west of the Au Sable Point Lighthouse, one of the most isolated Lighthouse stations ever created. The nearest town is Grand Marais, which lies 12 miles to the east.
The Mary Jarecki takes the cake for me.. little remains now (only beams and metal rods) + although no one died of the seventeen on board it does have a deathlike aura:

Sweepstakes was a 119-foot Canadian schooner which was damaged at sea in 1885. Although it reached the shallow waters of the harbour, the leaks couldn’t be fixed and it sank where it stood. Thanks to its relatively low depth, Sweepstakes is an amazing wreck for novices to explore.
