Israel has been and will continue to be a friend of Hungary, and will make every possible effort to guarantee peace and security in the world, including the Middle East, Israeli Ambassador to Hungary Ilan Mor said on Sunday.

Opening a conference of Hungarian-Israeli friendship societies in Zalaegerszeg, W Hungary, the ambassador said that “anti-Semitism and anti-Israeli attitudes go virtually hand in hand” in the 21st century. He added that the members of the friendship societies are allies in the struggle waged against “those instigating hatred with their base ideas”.

Mor said that bilateral relations are excellent both on inter-state and personal levels.

The ambassador said that 2014 would be a special year, with the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian Holocaust and the 25th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations to be commemorated.

Addressing the Mideast situation, Mor said that Israel does not want to intervene in the Syrian conflict but its citizens cannot remain silent if chemical weapons are deployed merely 100 kilometres far from Jerusalem.

The ambassador said there was some hope for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Greeting the conference in a letter, MP Janos Fonagy, head of the Hungarian-Israeli friendship section of the Hungarian IPU group, noted that Hungary had been one of the first East Bloc countries to recognise the State of Israel and establish ties between the two parliaments.

Fonagy said that Hungary represented a clear and consistent position on the existence and security of Israel in the related international polemics.

To add, so much for "Hungary is an anti-semitic country" or "Hungarian government is fascist and anti-semitic".

This Ilan Mor is smart enough to know the reality.

So are you sad about what he says or happy? I don't get it..

BTW He's a good diplomat, selling lies:

We also have good political relationship with Israel and I never heard that somebody attacked Jews here or try to damage their synagogue or cemetery.
But we later go on forum to tell them in virtual world what we actually think about them:lol:

Good relations are better than bad relations.
In reality, we have no reason to be against Israel.

I thought about it, and realized that there is no need for it, also I can sympathize with the Israelis on some things. We are also now a small country, surrounded by enemies, and could benefit from a Netanyahu-esque rule.

:thumb001:

We have little connections with Arabs, but many with Jews, so solidarity with Palestinians is a bit silly :P

HAhaha, yes its very funny.

Ok sure, today we are all in NATO, we pretend to be friends, but not so long ago Romanian prime minister was sending our threats how Romania will "discipline" Budapest...

But off course, its not the same as Iran-Israel, etc. We are in Central Europe, not Middle East ;)

you take everything too seriously, man. when a primitive tit speaks about "disciplining budapest" or "sitting in tanks and conquering budapest" it is nothing more than demonstration of primitivism and inspiration for caricaturists

Good :p. And yeah it's true Hungarians never had any contact with Arabs while with Jews it's like since Arpad's army came to Hungary.

Verchar I didn't fall off a tree yesterday... and as long as there are minorities, then there will be some diplomatic tensions. Over autonomy, dual citizenship, language laws, etc, you name it. And this is only while we have a soft approach to things... sadly it is no longer days of Horthy for us...

those arent diplomatic tensions, but political arena where election success is the reward
atm populist parties employing mix of socialist and nationalist rhetoric are the most successful. scoring some points with "ill show them what we are" is one of the best methods.

its common before elections in all former eastbloc countries and elsewhere, too.
the only way out of that mud is better education.

I am talking about the usage of my people as scapegoats for all their problems.

Saying that, I now know what Jews must feel like lol...

it doesnt matter who is used. what matters is that as long as there are talks about "enemies all around" we cant get out of the mud of backwardness. its again just populist rhetoric and again we get deeper and deeper.
