I prefer to think of it from the opposite point of view -- less settlement by Indo-European groups. Western Sicily would have been Phoenician, Carthaginian, and Elymian with the only strongly "European" input being from the Normans, who did not settle in Agrigento much. Whereas the rest of Sicily had either Normans or Greeks (and Greeks themselves have an Indo-European component).

Nordic influence is only strong in Palermo, the city. The other western areas will, without Nordic influence, cluster near Cyprus pretty much, as 23andme has shown.
