FPÖ leader Heinz-Christian Strache is open for a possible EU-accession of Russia. "Yes, in a reformed Europe," Strache said in an interview with the "Wiener Zeitung" (Thursday edition) on the question of whether Russia is a candidate for EU membership. "Always in history, when Russia was closer to Europe, had a positive impact," argued Strache.

The FPÖ leader advocates also EU accession of the entire Balkans, "but first the EU must get away from the federal centralism". "We need a federal Europe of nations. Including all European countries." Strache said in this connection that he wanted, "that we stick together Europeans, whether Russians, Greeks, Romanians, Bulgarians, Serbs. These people are all Christians, for me, is all as integral part of Europe."

As for Bosnia-Herzegovina, Strache has sympathy for a partition along ethnic lines. Bosnia is namely "an artificially a maintained state where Serbs and Croats are prevented to decide in the context of self-determination, whether they want to be part of Croatia or Serbia." Similarly, it was in Kosovo, where the Serbian north "not even granted an autonomous status."
