Voters in southern Switzerland have backed a ban on full-face veils, following similar laws implemented in France and Belgium. Activists argue that the law discriminates against the fundamental rights of Muslims.

The new measure still needs federal approval, after receiving two-thirds of public support in the Italian-speaking Swiss canton of Ticino. This is the first time that such a ban has been passed in a Swiss canton, Russia Today reported.
The creator of the proposal, Giorgio Ghiringhelli, argued that the ban is aimed at sending a message to “Islamist fundamentalists” in his district and all across the country.
"Those who want to integrate are welcome irrespective of their religion," Ghiringhelli stated on the Il Guastafeste website. "But those who rebuff our values and aim to build a parallel society based on religious laws, and want to place it over our society, are not welcome."
Human rights activists have heavily criticized the ban. Amnesty International called the vote a "black day for human rights in Ticino.”
Switzerland's Central Islamic Council condemned the vote, saying that it is "yet another loud expression of social Islamophobia…We in the Council see this as part of a string of attempts to make life increasingly difficult for Muslims in Switzerland and to ban symbols of Islam from the public arena," the council said in a statement.
The ban does not explicitly single out Muslims. It states only that "No one may mask or hide their face on the public highway, nor in places open to the public, except places of worship, nor those offering a public service.” It adds that “No one may require another person to cover their face for reasons of gender.”
Switzerland is home to around 400,000 Muslims – approximately five percent of the country’s population.
This is not the first controversial ban to be passed by Switzerland.
In 2009, a ban was passed on building new minarets – a distinctive architectural feature of mosques. Meanwhile, the key platform of the country’s largest party - the Swiss People's Party (SVP) - is opposition to immigration.
"I would also have voted 'yes' if I had been in Ticino. The burqa is a symbol of female oppression," Christophe Darbellay, a member of the Democratic People’s Party, said on Swiss television, as quoted by Reuters.
The Ticino proposal was created under the country’s tradition of direct democracy, which allows new bans to be put up for a vote if there are enough signatories supporting it.
A nationwide proposal to ban burqas was previously rejected by Swiss Parliament in 2012.
France was the first European country to ban the full-face veil in public places in 2010, followed by Belgium in 2011. French law stipulates that the penalty for wearing a full-face veil is a 150 euro fine (US$217) and instruction in citizenship.
The Spanish city of Barcelona also passed a partial ban on full-face veils in public places, including municipal offices, public markets, and libraries. The Netherlands has announced that it plans to ban face-covering veils in order to guard its own culture.

Another great democratic decision of the proud Swiss people, only a few years after their country-wide ban of mosque minarets! :D

I totally agree, wearing the muslim veils(Burqa, Niqab and Hijab) in Europe is a real hypocrisy, since in the western society, the rules of Islam have no longer a place of practice, and that's because western people have another set of rules about morality, which I think is the fairest, if any individual wants to be part of perverted actions that individual will take part of that action(women in this case) even if locked up in a wall of glass, trust me.
Plus the islamic clothing is really inappropriate in the european continent, since it may scare off the young ones, as the women really look strange and scary in my point of view.

The whole point is, that the islamic veil clothing made of silk and light elements was created in the Middle East/North Africa firstly to fit in with the weather and help people resist hot temperatures during daytime, and cold temperatures during nightime, as such clothing was present(even why in a more simplified manner) before the birth of Mohammed in the Persian Empire and western regions of India, than it came out it was for morality, strangely though a veil can not defend your values/morality, it's your character that does so. Therefore muslim men imprison their women with this kind of clothing, but it's odd to see that most out-of marriage pervertions take part in the muslim world.
Europe is Europe and should never adapt to the newcomers, doesn't matter how many are they, as we don't see white minorities in South Africa or Zimbabwe or other white colonised countries out of Europe trying to impose their ways of life on the indigenous population in those places, yet the inverted phenomenon is taking place in those countries, white genocide.

I wonder what would happen if European Christians were to start flooding the middle east insted of vice-versa; what would these "human rights" say? Its a crusade? But, sure, the fact the Saracenes threatened Europe even at that time doesn't matter to them-it was the Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos to call the west for help after the Seljuks threatened Constantinople.
Anyway, I am glad the Europeans are starting to awake for them bottomlet pit called Islamization, but the main question is not how to solve problems, but how to prevent them at first place-who let them in? And how do we keep them out?
Oh, and another thing-how would you fell about White immigrants from places lik the US? If I were to immigrate to Europe, would would you feel about that?

Good job for the lombard minority of the Canton Ticino (the ''italian swiss'').
That's a good example for their ''italian'' (Lombardy) counterparts...a region literally flooded by these subhumans.

There are issues that have nothing to do with religion, that makes a move such as this make sense.

They got every right to introduce those laws in their own country. In Islamic countries, non Moslem women have to wear Muslim veils. So the French and the Swiss, can have similar laws, in this case ban Muslim veils, it is their country.

One step after another. ;)

You Germans massacred Namibians in Africa, slaved their young girls for sex 100 years ago.
You Germans massacred 6.000.000 Jewish and Gypsy civilians 50 years ago.

Now making plans about Muslims, killing them litle by litle.

Who will be next after all muslims are cleaned ?
