Btw, the irony is one of them is a mixture of like 10 different things (Irish, African American, Native American, Cape Verdean, Puerto Rican, German, etc.) but the end result comes out looking stereotype Caribbean Hispanic in the northeast.

The girls in that photo look more like Dominicans. I think of Puerto Rican as octoroon to quadroon or an offwhite type while I think of Dominicans as clearly in the "black" range without the ambiguity.

I have a friend who is half African American, half French Canadian and everyone thinks she looks Puerto Rican.

yes the majority of Nuyoricans came from the poor families from the eastern parts of PR which is more blacker..but there were also many jibaros or poor whites that immigrated which is why there are white looking Nuyoricans that could pass as Italian or have that Canarian look

That's because of Canary Islands ancestry. I saw the DNA tribes results of someone who traced her family back to the Canary Islands and it came back about a quarter Mozabite Berber.

He's Algerian. There's a flat-featured, wide-spaced eyed Cromagnid type look to white PRs, Canarians, Algerians, some Moroccans, and some southern Spaniards that is very common. If people could mistake any of those for Sicilian it's because they see dark hair, dark eyes and don't know any better to be honest.

This woman is Sicilian and could ambiguously be SE Euro, Lebanese, Puerto Rican etc. but not Spanish. I wonder why. I honestly think continental Spanish ancestry in Puerto Rico is overridden by Canarian and Sephardi but that is just me.

Atlanto-Med type looks could probably pass as "white" in the US without even raising eyebrows.. people might not even guess Southern European but just plain old white.

Canarian wouldn't be seen as Italian. I've seen Canarians and they look too North African.

It's the types who look like dbbrainer and his family who people might think Italian. I also know someone from Israel who is of Spanish Jewish background who is similar.

Americans associate all swarthy white looks with Italian.

Because they don't look Hispanic enough to most Americans.

In my town people would default to Portuguese though, not Italian. Not enough Italians here, but many Portuguese.

Pretty typical, Ricans from the Island are more European looking though and these represent the ones who immigrated. They look more like Dominicans in this pic.
