This thread is dedicated to Muhtesem Yuzuil, is a prime time historical Turkish soap opera television series with a large audience. It was originally broadcasted on Show TV, and later on transfered to Star TV.
The series is based on the life of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, the longest reigning sultan of the Ottoman Empire aswell as the famous ukrainian slave girl, Roxelana who would later become known as Hürrem Sultan through the series plus the other main important characters, the several military campaigns(Against Vienna and Budapest in the western campaign(first seasons) and the Safavid persian dynasty in modern day Iran(the later seasons).

The show gained quite a lot of popularity in Turkey, Balkans, Middle East, China, France and many other countries in a short time, possibly due to the quality of the show, credibility and it's effects aswell.

Due to the inexistance of a such thread, I allowed myself to create one, so that we might discuss more about the show, but also about the Ottoman Empire organization, life, events and such.
I myself, even though I am a traditional roman catholic, I followed this show as it was more historical than religously motivated, and I learnt some interesting facts that I might have not known, therefore I will not allow this thread become a religious battleground.

There is also a poll, on the which you have to vote your favorite character in the series and if you wish to, comment your selection.

Pargali Ibrahim Pasha was Greek devshirme.
Süleyman had married his sister to him; but Ibrahim Pasha was an ambitious guy.
Süleyman organized a chess game with him to put him on trial, he told words he shouldn't have told but who actually displayed his genuine goals (becoming Sultan).

Süleyman decided that Greek convert was threat and had him killed.
His two sons had also been killed in the aftermath so that none of him threatens the dynasty.

The execution of Pargali in the serie:

In reality, he was beheaded. Only people considered to have nobel blood were strangled.
:) That scene in the serie was probably staged by a Greek. Portraying Pargali as a nobleman from the family.
