Post traditional Canadian folk songs here

My personal favourite:
Farewell to Nova Scotia
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rfw99vrBaBA

Shivers run up and down my spine every single time it means a lot to me for various reasons... But as a wee lass I already sung it.

Ah... here's the lyrics to go along:
Chorus: Farewell to Nova Scotia, your sea-bound coast,
Let your mountains dark and dreary be.
For when I am far away on the briny ocean tossed,
Will you ever heave a sigh or a wish for me?

The sun was setting in the west,
The birds were singing on every tree.
All nature seemed inclined to rest
But still there was no rest for me.

Chorus

I grieve to leave my native land,
I grieve to leave my comrades all,
And my parents whom I love so dear,
And the bonnie, bonnie lass/lad that I do adore.

Chorus

The drums they do beat and the wars to alarm,
The captain calls, and I must obey.
So farewell, farewell to Nova Scotia's charms,
For it's early in the morning and I'm far, far away.

Chorus

I have three brothers and they are at rest,
Their hands are folded on their breast.
But a poor simple sailor just like me,
Must be tossed and driven on the dark blue sea.

Chorus

Love Leahy.. Wonderful Canadian riverdance/folk artists.
This bit with the Chieftains was brilliant.

My grandfather Harold's mother was an Allard whose parents (Amable and Phiulomene) were born in Quebec Province (her paternal grandmother was likely a Baillargeon, I haven't found her mother's family name yet) in the 1830's - 1840's.

A distant cousin with whom I have had contact says we had forebears involved in the Patriotes' Rebellion. He claims that an Allard fired the first shot at the British. ;)
