Belarusians (Belarusian: беларусы biełarusy, Russian: белорусы byelorusy) are an East Slavic ethnic group who populate the majority of the Republic of Belarus. There are over 8 million people who associate themselves with the Belarusian nationality today.

The groups are a mixture of ethnicities . The majority are the Belarusians.

According to the 2009 census, the population is 9,503,807.[147] Ethnic Belarusians constitute 83.7% of Belarus' total population.[147] The next largest ethnic groups are: Russians (8.3%), Poles (3.1%), and Ukrainians (1.7%).[147] Belarus' two official languages are Russian and Belarusian;[148] Russian is the main language, used by 72% of the population, while Belarusian, the second official language, is only used by 11.9%.[149] Minorities also speak Polish, Ukrainian and Eastern Yiddish.[150]

Poles from there speak totally like Belorussians with strong Eastern accent and are very similar looking. There's smooth transition between these two nations in these regions. I can say that Belarussians appear to be ultra-Slavic in many aspects. Number of Belorussians is estimated from 50 000 by official census to 250 000 by Belarussian organizations. There are people who identify as both.

I can say that Belarussians appear to be ultra-Slavic in many aspects. Number of Belorussians is estimated from 50 000 by official census to 250 000 by Belarussian organizations. There are people who identify as both.
Western Belarusian Polesia, western Ukrainian Polesia and region in Poland bordering Ukraine and Belarus form the same ethnographic region. Some people identified themselves as Ukrainians or Volhynians, others as Belarusians. People in the region are also known as Poleshyuks and Pinchuks on the Belarusian side of the border. Their dialect is transitional between Belarusian and Ukrainian which is more similar to Ukrainian. I agreee, they are a very Slavic group of people in every sense. Some people refer to the region as the marshlands of Pripiat.

Their dialect is in yellow colour of the bottom left corner.

I looked through some of the team's names. It’s more like 1/3 of people are not ethnic Belarusians. Some African and Asian players are not even citizens of Belarus. The university group has foreign students from abroad. The foreign politicians among Belarusian politicians.

Belarus has Russians, Ukrainians and other ethnicities from former republics living in major centres. At least one out of four or more will not be ethnic Belarusian. So if you see a person who does not look as a local, the he or she probably isn't.

Nearly all Jews pure or mixed have left Belarus for USA or Israel in the last 50 years. A lot of Belarusians I know have no Ashkenazi admixture in them. Not according the DNA tests on 23andMe and published studies. Some people do have small Ashkenazi admixture, which is no more than other European ethnicities.

They were born and raised in Belarus. In early 90 they moved to Israel, then to Melbourne, Australia. They returned to Russia permanently residing in Russia. There are many world acclaimed artists, scientists, politicians and businessmen, who have some Ashkenazi ancestors that lived in Belarus.

Shura and Lyova are playing on city day in Brest recorded on the video. Brest is the largest multi-ethnic regional centre of south-western Belarus. South-western Belarus has most brunettes according to anthropologists. That's how general public look like in Brest.

People of Brest and all of South West Belarus are de facto ethnic Ukrainians. When USSR has stolen the territory from Poland in 1939, they didn't respect ethnic borders dividing the eastern part of Poland between Ukraine and Belarus - south of Pripyat river people always spoke Ukrainian. Even during the Nazi occupation, the territory was part of Reichskommissariat Ukraine.

80+% of them identify as Belarusians. As for the unique minority to it, they're western Poleshuks. Correspondingly, Jews in the very southwestern corner of the Brest region spoke a transitional Yiddish between Northeastern and Southeastern Yiddish, as Poleshuks speak a transitional language between Belarusian and Ukrainian. I doubt this is a coincidence. The natives of the region called themselves Litvins, while the Jews called themselves Litvaks(from the Polish word for Litvin). Given the peoples' self identification and the land's history in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, it's much simpler to associate it with Belarus than with Ukraine. The Nazi argument is stupid. Are you willing to give up all the areas Nazis didn't include in Ukraine?

In case of Brest area people didn't know how to associate they called themselves "locals" so we don't know whether they were Ukrainians or Belarusians. Also Beresteychyna term exists only in Ukrainian Wikipedia even Belarusian one doesn't mention it. Also there are thousands of people with Polish ancestry

I am pretty sure nowadays 100% of them identify with Moscow and Russia, nash Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and so on. They are people without memory and history. Hopefully, Ukraine will not follow their fate and will stay as independent country. We don't need Brest and Krasnodar, but we remember history and our past.
