Edward Witten (born August 26, 1951) is an American theoretical physicist and professor of mathematical physics at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey.
Witten is a researcher in string theory, quantum gravity, supersymmetric quantum field theories, and other areas of mathematical physics. In addition to his contributions to physics, Witten's work has significantly impacted pure mathematics. In 1990 he became the first and so far only physicist to be awarded a Fields Medal by the International Mathematical Union. In 2004, Time magazine stated that Witten was widely thought to be the world's greatest living theoretical physicist.

Are you Armenoid? Gamera used to post lots of Armenoids too.

No, I'm not or at least I think I'm not. I just find people with Jewish or Near East ancestry interesting. The Jews in particular have had an interesting history, a long diaspora but with close knit communities and a unique genetic history.

Two features have made the Ashkenazi Jewish population an excellent candidate for genetic studies. First, its unique, well-documented overall demography is consistent with several founding events, repeated bottlenecks, and dramatic expansions, from an estimated number of ∼25,000 in 1300 A.D. to 18,500,000 around the turn of the 20th century (DellaPergola 2001; Ostrer 2001). Second, the unusual accumulation of 120 recessive disorders restricted to this population and the proposed possible explanations for this phenomenon have fueled a long-standing and lively debate between theories favoring heterozygote advantage and theories postulating drift of rare disease-causingBehar et al in "The Matrilineal Ancestry of Ashkenazi Jewry: Portrait of a Recent Founder Event"

I have shared with people like Witten at 23andme, Jews with German sounding family names and a very long history in Germany, or Central Europe, and yet they land near where other Levantine and Near Eastern populations land (Assyrians, Lebanese, etc), carrying not unusually paternal or maternal haplogroups which can be traced back to the Middle East, even after such a very long diaspora. Faces of people like Witten are thus extraordinarily interesting IMO. They are tied to an ancestral Near Eastern stock but due to several bottlenecks they have also become their own unique population, definitely different from the host populations (Germans, Poles, etc).
