Here you will find portraits of people who sat with the Serbian artist Marina Abramović during her "The Artist Is Present" art installation at MOMA.

She sat in the museum from opening to closing time. The people waited in line to sit with her. They could sit with her as long as they wanted. I think someone stayed with her the whole 8 hours. Most people stayed just some minutes.

Observation: New York is average and homely looking. Ok, many of the people are probably tourists (I imagine most if not all of the Japanese people are), but still. We pissants in middle America are told New York and LA are nothing but wall to wall hotties. FAIL.

Here are some nice looking men, in my view, the best looking of the males pictured... someone else can judge the females.

I don't know why people are so eager to seek out this experience. Hipster street cred? Get famous on the internet? But it is an art work, in its own way. It isn't crap or idiocy. It is something creative which captures the imagination in a unique way, that is the essence of any good art work. Art is deeper than just pretty pictures meant to "inspire" the masses.

The other part of the show had live naked people standing around skeletons and stuff. She should have just done this sitting in a room thing and scrapped that naked business. Clearly, moments of eye contact with a complete stranger as hundreds look on is more a shock to the system than some random unclothed bodies. Look at the photostream and see how many people are in tears!

I'm convinced many modern artists are just doing this sort of work "for the lulz." I like to think Marina had a laugh at the end of it all.

Nice that an artist generated publicity and buzz. We're not an art-friendly society any longer. If it gets people to go to museums and get interested in appreciating art, that's a good thing.
