I hope this did not happen. It would be very disrespectful and the Polish would be speaking German if not for the Soviets.

Communism is a totalitarian system prohibited by the Article 256 of the Polish law. I'm more of a russophile than a russophobe, but Russians just have to accept our law and that the Red Army, which enforced their bolshevism, cannot be glorified in Poland.
There should be nothing to remind people of communism/socialism and communists or socialists. They ought to be un-personed and churches ought to be erected at the sites of the memorial.
Actually, Poland would be a nation today even more if it hadn't been for the Soviet Army.
How so? It's simple:
Soviet Union supported Germans in their war from the very first day (1st September), and on the 17th september invaded Poland, preventing the Polish army from establishing a new defensive line on Vistula and San rivers. Without the Soviet help, Germany would not be able to take over the entire Poland and would eventually run out of necessary materials, becoming more prone to and Allied offensive (which would be inevitable in that case).
simply you don't know how it works in the east, even in Poland, if there is a small evidence Schwerin was Zwierzyn - belongs to Poland, soviet monument in Karl-Marx-Stadt, 'pardon' Chemnitz, Soviets can return anytime, no facts - no claims
