As a born and raised Romanian in Bucharest. I’m not ok with being called Balkan. Because I consider myself East Carpathian. So people better start using my pronouns or I will be offended.
in real life no. people consider themselves balkaners and no one consider balkan a derogatory term..

Only South Romania is Balkan, the rest of the country with today RM not.
Good question. I might not be the best person to answer because I'm American (born and raised), but I don't really care one way or the other. Balkan seems like more a geographic reference point more than anything else and what actually constitutes Balkan is vague and not set in stone. It's kinda like when Americans debate whether a place like Texas or Oklahoma is really "in the South." Nobody can agree. I'm not sure a place like Transylvania would be typically Balkan in culture but I don't mind the label one way or another.
