Yellowstone bison species decision questioned by US judge

A federal judge has ordered the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to revisit part of its decision not to protect Yellowstone National Park’s bison as an endangered species

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. -- A federal judge has ordered the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to revisit part of its decision not to protect Yellowstone National Park’s bison as an endangered species.

The Buffalo Field Campaign and Western Watersheds Project groups have been fighting since 2014 to have Yellowstone’s bison declared endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act.

Endangered Wolves are protected by the Federal Government, at Yellowstone National Park, but the State of Wyoming has taken no such measure, and wolves can be hunted outside of the the National Park. Poachers place bait just outside the perimeters of the park, and have successfully lured away dozens of wolves. There're fewer than a hundred wolves at Yellowstone Park, so even a few dozen wolves killed annually can devastate the population.
