The Tajiks of today are indeed Persian speakers but that wasn't the case 1,000 years ago as Central Asia and Afghanistan were mostly East Iranic speakers such as Bactrians, Sogdians, Kwarezmians. Pamiri tribes still speak Eastern Iranic dialects as well as Pashtuns of Afghanistan and Pathans of Pakistan. On G25 Pamiris can be modeled as 40-50% Bronze Age Steppe (Sintashta).
