Credo pero che quella storia abbia un po di veritá, almeno il periodo imperiale i latini e gli italici si mischiarono con un popolo dell oriente come i greci e gli anatolici. Gli italiani moderni sono in generale un mic di questi due, con al nord che c'é un po di influenza celto/germanica e al sud qualcosa di medio-orientale in eccesso

Also Romans used to live in provinces as well perhaps the one that mixed arent the Italian ones...

I believe the ethnogenesis of modern Italians happened concurrently in Italy with that of European Jews, from the same mixture of Iron Age Italians and Levantines. From what I've seen Iron Age Italians were North Italian/Iberian-like across the peninsula (maybe the Greek settlements in the South were already East Med shifted, but Latium is the most important area), so I believe that is primarily what the paternal ancestors of Ashkenazi Jews mixed with.
