It has implications in the real world, especially when linked to Islamic radicalism (in a non-direct way). Many British Pakistanis have joined ISIS because of strong, superficial affinity with the Middle East and West Asia - they are willing to fight for MENA causes instead of their own. You even see it in universities - raising money for MENA causes instead of pumping it to their own countries. They think if you are light-skin and don't look typical Indian, you must have Arabic/Persian/Turkish ancestors - which makes no sense. I think it's a social issue which needs looking into.
