Outside Western Europe, which of these countries would you categorise as 'Western' and why?

It's really easy actually: If everybody tries to escape that country (Afghanistan, Somalia, Venezuela, etc...) then it's a failed shithole. If everybody wants to go there (UK, USA, Japan, etc...) then it's developed and civilized. That's what I call Incal principle ®

What about the vast number of other countries in between those extremes? (As for Japan, not many people migrate to it relative to its wealth and prominence, since the language and culture are so alien to most of the world).

Peru is ok then by that standard, and to answer OP's question. Columbia sounds like a shithole though (?)

Pretty summed up.

Every country in the EU is undeniably part of the Western world in the 21st century. Latin America is separate and oriental countries by definition can't be Western.

With how the things are going on nowadays, we can make the wold 'western' synonym with "decadent".

As for the thread question (if we go by the traditional concept of western civilization, before today shitty decadence), definitively Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Brazil, followed by eastern European countries.

Most of the American content to me is culturally western, which is no shocker.

Latin America is culturally western pretty much, there won't be much of acukture shock from Europe to Latin America, just like any country, it has their own costumes and traditions, but people have similar views of life and societal rules.
